About this ebook

Things are coming to a head as the lives of Ranisha, Ethridge, Zhaire, and Shawnta collide. Using Veora as bait, Shawnta figures she can get rid both of her competitors in the fight for Zhaire’s love. There is just one problem, Veora’s old flame, Ethridge. After finding out that she’s been kidnapped, he will stop at nothing to save her. In the midst of the rescue operation, Ethridge much chose between being the caregiver within him or the part of him that wants to bring an end to Zhaire.

As with most situations, pain creates a bond between two individuals. This is true for Ethridge and Ranisha, who eventually find themselves the target of Zhaire’s destructive rampage. Half truths and whole lies bring them together. In one another, they find hope for the future.

But good things never last.

The men face off in a final battle, in which the woman of their affections, will determine their fate. Once again, Ranisha finds herself behind the trigger, the decision of who lives and dies in her hands. Good guy or King Pin? Present or Future?

No matter who she chooses, no one’s life will be the same.

Getting Out Of The Game 3 - Sasha Key

    One

    Shawnta

    Thump.

    Thump.

    Thump.

Shawnta’s heartbeat slammed against her eardrums, as she held the gun out in front of her. Zhaire’s weight pulling down on her reminded her of the situation she was in. Ranisha lay unconscious a few feet to the left of where she stood, Veora trembling in front of her.

    You okay, baby?

I’m good, Zhaire responded, dabbing at the cut over his eye. After getting his footing, he took the gun from her, his grip more authoritative on the handle. He gestured Veora to her feet, instructing Shawnta to keep an eye on her, as he went to retrieve another chair.

Shawnta did nothing to hide the arrogance in her grin. She gave herself a mental pat on the back. Zhaire’s abrupt reentrance gave her a startle, which she quickly recovered from. She caught the roll of tape he threw.

Setting the chair in the middle of the room, he said, Tie her up.

What about this one? she asked, pointing to Ranisha.

She can wait. He scoured the rest of the house for anything worth taking. When he returned, Shawnta had just finished her task. Snatching a final piece from the roll, she slapped it over Veora’s mouth.

    Zhaire ripped it off.

    What—?

She snitched, and I’m about to find out why, he answered. Pacing back and forth, he smoothed his beard down and ran his fingers through his hair. Spying her out the corner of his eye, he did his best to keep their past in the back of his mind, convincing himself it was all a set up. He also convinced himself that Ethridge was part of this plot. It was probably his fuckin’ idea.

    What? Shawnta asked.

    Nothing, he sniped.

She remained standing after he sat on the bed, pulling Veora closer to him. Her fingers tingled with the urge to slap her. She decided to busy herself with restraining Ranisha, assuming she would be waking up soon.

Zhaire yanked Veora’s chin up, forcing her to make eye contact. You ain’t shit, you know that?

You ain’t never been shit, Shawnta added.

Veora flashed her red-stained teeth. Then why’d he leave you for me?

Bitch, I’ll—! Shawnta’s thin frame came to a halt after hitting Zhaire’s thick arm.

Chill out. I got it. Again, he yanked Veora’s chin. Start talking.

Ain’t nothing to say you don’t already know. I ain’t gonna snitch on you. She gestured to the spot on her shoulder. You really think I planned to get shot.

Shawnta trembled with excitement, as Zhaire cocked the pistol, his finger nursing the trigger as he rested it in his lap. He pulled the chair closer and leaned forward. With his lips next to her ear, he whispered, Lie to me again.

I’m not lying. Look in my eyes.

Fuck all that shit. Shoot that bitch and let’s get out of here, Shawnta said.

All of their eyes focused on the sudden rustling sound. Ranisha struggled against her restraints, trying to turn into her side. Her eyes widened as she realized she was taped up, her gaze landing on the gun in Zhaire’s lap.

Look who’s finally awake, Shawnta teased.

    What…? What’s going on?

Shawnta used the discarded piece of tape to cover her mouth. A shot to the stomach offered her more incentive to remain quiet.

I should put a bullet in ya head, but I’m willing to let you live if you talk, Zhaire said.

"I didn’t snitch on you Zhaire. Are you deaf or something?

This time Zhaire was too slow to react. Shawnta’s palm forced Veora’s neck to turn, a large, red splotch lingering afterward. This shit is taking too long. She grabbed a handful of Zhaire’s crotch after he moved the gun. Instantly, she was reminded of the promise he made, the thought calming her.

I’m getting tired of playin’ games, too. With clenched teeth and his hand around Veora’s throat, he placed the barrel in the middle of her forehead. Whatchu tell the law?

Veora’s head fell, her hair muffling her chuckle. After a few seconds, she looked up. I ain’t tell ‘em shit, but I did tell you it wasn’t gonna work. But what do I know? A gasp escaped from her chest, as Zhaire’s large knuckles slammed into her teeth.

Finally. I was gettin’ tired of hearing that raspy-ass voice, Shawnta cheered. Her hopes of getting a shot of her own were quickly dashed with a bone-chilling glare.

Once again, the pistol was pointed at Veora’s frontal lobe. If you ain’t tell ‘em, how’d they find out? Zhaire asked.

I don’t know, but it wasn’t me. I’m in the same spot as you.

    What about the stash?

It ain’t here. I’ll take you to it. You can have it all. Fuck that shit, Veora said.

    She’s lying, Shawnta suggested.

Veora chuckled. He still ain’t gonna want you, so you can stop trying so fuckin’ hard. She looked into Zhaire’s eyes, her face stern. I didn’t tell the cops shit. We ain’t been faithful to each other, but we’re still part of the same family.

Shawnta’s scoff had no affect on the validity of the statement. She held back her disgust, as Zhaire began cutting her restraints away. So…we’re just gonna let her go?

Nah, she gonna take us to get my money.

What about the co—? I mean, Ranisha?

Tape her up again, and make sure she can’t get loose. Imma go get the car. He handed her the gun, jogging into the hallway.

The control Shawnta had was a powerful aphrodisiac. She became more turned on as her hand got used to the weight of the gun. The fear on her competitors’ faces caused a storm to brew between her thighs. Waving the gun back and forth, she reminded them of their positions and said, Make one fuckin’ move…

The women stayed quiet and still.

Hold the door open, Zhaire said, before throwing Ranisha over his shoulder. He led the way out, Veora following him, and Shawnta using the gun as inspiration for her to move faster.

    The car shook after he
