    I f you do not stop watching me with that peculiar look upon your face, I am going to have to call Doctor Kingston and see about having you committed, Mary said as she caught sight of her husband, Henry Thompson, staring at her. Again. Hand resting on her slightly swollen belly, she knelt at the side of their bed, the hint of a smile twitching the corners of her mouth. I think you may well have caught the insanity.

    No, Henry grinned, propping himself up on his elbow. I was just watching you.

    Aye. Which is precisely the trouble of the matter.

    Henry pushed himself up onto his hand. It is no fault of mine that my eyes have ne’er beheld beauty such as yours. You have cursed me.

    Mary chuckled, her smile creating soft dimples in her cheeks. I see it is worse than the insanity. You have gone stark raving mad, Henry Thompson. Now stop with your foolishness and get yourself to work. Those chickens will not bring their eggs to the door.

    Henry threw himself back on the bed with a humph, lacing his hands behind his head as he lay back and stared up at the ceiling. Can a man not look at his wife and think how lucky he is?

    A man can, if he can afford to be flat out in bed all day long. She smacked his thigh with the back of her hand. Now, get yourself up and washed.

    Mary wasn’t fast enough. Henry caught her
