THE TROLL SERIES
Excerpt:
Laptop screen flickered on, putting an end to my rambling thoughts. It was like a time bomb had been triggered and was fixing to go off.
Instead of a bomb, the laptop exploded in song.
'Only You' by The Platters played as a screensaver of photos roamed the monitor.
'For it's true, you are my destiny,' the old song went until I lurched forth and switched off the computer, then sat back to keep an eye on the screen.
The creepy laptop resurrected itself and crooned, 'You're my dream come true, my one and only you.'
"Jesus," I said. "This isn't happening. Not again. Can't be."
'Only You' started over. Not only was this happening, apparently it wasn't going to stop.
"Stop it, Justin!" I screamed at the monitor as I launched from the chair and prepared to kill the Toshiba L675.

'Better grow eyes on the back of your beautiful head, sweetheart. I'm gonna be coming for you.'
Among other details, these were the very words I told police once I arrived at the Springfield station. I felt like an idiot as I stood at the front desk while the young male officer gave me funny looks, as if he didn't believe my story about the evil devil-hacker.
I see that I made a huge mistake by coming here. Terrific.
Officer Juxton glanced at his notepad on the dingy desk, then his gaze slid back to me. A bored expression washed over him.
Would you like an officer to check out your apartment?
he asked.
Uh, what do you think?
Alright.
He looked behind at another officer. Tony, can you take care of this? It's a possible breaking and entering on 21 West Maple, apartment 36.
And stalking,
I hissed, incredulous he'd missed such an important detail. He stalked me for days before breaking in and assaulting me.
Officer Juxton barely met my gaze as he turned back to his partner. She also claims the guy's a stalker.
And a hacker... he hacked into my phone and computer,
I added with a sigh. And, well, he had a gun. An automatic.
I braced for the officer's reaction.
Did'ja hear that, Tony? A hacker with an Uzi,
Juxton said as the other officer nodded, somewhat amused but trying to hide it. Tony leaned over and shoved a stack of papers into a roll-out drawer, which emitted an ear-piercing shriek when he closed it.
Several minutes afterward Tony and I were inside my small apartment; an empty apartment with no sign whatsoever of Justin Brogan. The officer searched every room
