Reborn - Mª del Mar Agulló

    1. Kiara

    ––––––––

    K

iara was a pretty normal Romanian country girl from the century XIX. Like everyone, she liked the dances that the nobles gave when they came to their country houses, she liked gossiping with the people of the town, and she was passionate about the romantic theater plays, dreaming about being someday like the main characters. Every book tells the same story: Poor girl and rich boy with title, they fall in love, his family is opposed at first, and hers are delighted, and finally the two young in love, get married to the joy of her family.

Kiara didn’t meet any noble, but she does meet a really charming man that made her happy, his name was Saul. After three year of getting married, they had their first child, a boy with the name Isaac. Seven years later of the birth of Isaac, Kiara was pregnant of their second child.

Kiara was about to giving birth and despair consumed her. During the whole pregnancy she had had constant nightmares, and even, an attraction to blood hard to explain. Kiara decided not to tell anything to anyone, despite being somewhat worried.

The childbirth would be assisted by a gypsy from a near village, who was in charge of helping mothers bring their offspring to Earth.

The Kiara’s mother, Adriana, who lived with them to be widowed years ago, was out of the house roasting a lamb. The cousin Araquel, who came from far away to be with her cousin before the childbirth.

In the afternoon, Adriana had been sewing clothes for the future newborn. Later, like she did for the Isaac’s birth, hung different amulets in the door to give luck to her future grandson.

Saul, in the other hand, he was like it was a usual day, he had being the whole day working. Saul was a country person. He was in charge of the farms of several wealthy neighbors, and when the job was scarce, he worked as a gardener, caring for animals, or whatever that presented. Other of his sources of income was the sale of eggs, prepared meals and clothes sewed by Adriana, she was already a great weaver, quite the opposite that Kiara, who has better qualities to the kitchen.

Kiara’s family hadn’t a lot of resources. They lived in a little country house of three dorms, a small kitchen, an improvised living room that made a porch, a bathroom, and the barn.

The barn was the favorite place of Isaac. He could pass the whole day in it, when his father hasn’t excess of work or his mother didn’t call him to do any task. It was made of two floors: in the first were two cows, in one of the partitions; and in the other totally closed were a dozen of chickens; the rest of the partitions of the barn, and the second floor were empty. The chickens were brought y Adriana when she moved in. The cows were gifts of the owners of the farm where Saul worked.

    2. The Birth

    T

he starry moon dawned in the middle of the night announcing the birth. In that moment the gypsy arrived to help with the birth. The pain didn’t diminish and the contractions didn’t stop, but were increasing.

In that moment Kiara broke water, uttering a cry of pain. Xantal, the gypsy, who arrived in the back of a white horse, went down quickly, quickly tied the horse to a post that was in the entrance, and entered the house without asking.

Kiara couldn’t anymore. You could read in her face how the pain was consuming her, she suffered a superhuman pain. Quickly, the gypsy took a purple bottle from her bag and handed it to Araquel.

Make her drink it She told to Xantal and Araquel, pointing Kiara The kid will be better out.

Adriana took Isaac out of the room, who complained.

What’s this? said Kiara with a thread of voice holding the purple vial from which Araquel had given her.

Drink it, will calm you down said Xantal with her east accent.

Xantal was a shady person, the few things that was known about her is she was native of a coastal village from the Black Sea. It was said that she practiced witchcraft, but no one has proof. The most suspicious was an extensive orchard that had all kinds of strange plants, some of them poisonous.

After two hours of the birth, the little head of a new human being made his apparition in the room. Bit by bit, the shoulders first, then the arms, and the legs for last, it was coming out. It was a girl, a beautiful girl.

The gypsy hastened to cut the umbilical cord. Adriana brought a big container full of hot water to shower her.

    Adriana, curious, asked:

What name are you going to put her?

    Aman Kiara replied still convalescing.

    Blessed of evil.

    Exactly replied Kiara to Xantal.

Suddenly, as if fate warned her of some danger, Xantal turned on little Aman. She contemplated her for few second. Something wasn’t right. Apparently the girl was healthy, everything was going as planned.

After inspecting the girl a few seconds more superficially, she saw her, a strange mark that didn’t presage nothing well. Xantal had to decide if she had to say it or not. She chose the second choice.

The mark hay the form of a small circle that inside had others smaller circles, forming a small whirlpool that went almost unnoticed to be behind the right ear. In the future it’ll be practically hidden, because the hair would cover it, but for someone like Xantal, details are never unnoticed.

The mark had a hidden mystery. The oldest of the place related it to the human transformation in other dangerous and dark beings, in the human reincarnation, and even were people that related it to the personification of the devil himself.

Suddenly, a gentle breeze blew, sneaking through the windows, turning off the candles that illuminated the room, leaving them in the dark. The room was impregnated with the smell of jasmine from the garden, which had entered with the breeze, with the only sound of the cries of the new born.

    Another bad presage Xantal thought.

    3. A new Home

    S

hortly after Aman turned six years old, Saul got a job offer in a farm of a rich earl, and that supposed to have to move to another town, Harkaj. At first the family got doubts, they have always lived in the same town, with the same people, but the job offered to Saul was really well paid, it was an opportunity that they couldn’t let pass.

The new house of Aman was adorable. It was made of stone and wood, with a triangular roof and large windows. In the first floor was a big room that was the kitchen, dining room and living room. In the second floor were the dorms. But what the family liked the most were the wonderful view, as it was next to a small lake.

Behind the house was a swirling water, and space for the animals.

A little after arrive to their new home; they start the construction in the garage because the Earl gave as a gift to Saul a tractor so he can perform better his work.

Besides, the farm owned a pier, the family didn’t own any barge, although years later they would acquire one.

Most of the rest of the neighbors also had their houses by the lake, the rest were grouped in the extreme north. There was the romantic Strong plaza, where reigned a big romantic font, to which a statue of a half-naked woman had been added later. The houses with the views to the plaza were adorned with flowers in pink and red tones, such as roses, alpine roses and other varieties.

On Fridays the plaza was transformed, giving rise to a spectacular market, both by size, as by variety of products, in which people came from other regions to sell, to buy, or simply to observe that show. In fact, sometimes the merchants saw the need to extend it to the outskirts of the town. There could be found since farm animals, exotic animals, food, fabric, spices, even slipslops, between other things.

During six years, Aman was a normal child. Her grandmother seemed younger every day, according to the bad tongues she drank slipslops to look younger, that she bought to Xantal. The relationship between her parents has resented, they pretended to be two people in love when literally they were two people who were found and who shared a life, it was as if little by little, love moved away from them. Her brother was the most changed. He transformed in a teenager really different from the kid he was. Now he was more subdued, he suffered. When he was a kid, was the joy of the house. He was vivacious, cheerful and carefree, but as he grew they had crossed his way. The worry has a name, Lorena, a young from a neighbor village, rich, pretty and fancy. The first time he saw her, fell in love with her. She walked around the market. She was dressed in a dark blue suit, and her golden curls falling in her back. She was smiling at one of the young people selling at the vegetable stand. She would never notice someone like him.

Several years before of the Aman’s arrived to her new home, while returning from the house of a friend, to whom her family frequently sold eggs and milk to, she meet whit a young leaning on a tree. He dressed with expensive clothes. A dark blue jacket, with pants in set really elegant.

He looked to Aman without blinking. He had a serene look, in it could read happiness.

When she reached his height, Aman continued as if she did not notice his presence, but he put his hand on her shoulder, at the same time that Aman became nervous.

Hi, my name is Florin the unknown introduced himself.

I don’t know who you are and I don’t know what you want, but I don’t have any money, my family is really humble, we can’t give you nothing said Aman defensively taking a few steps back.

I’m not a thief. I’m new in town. Sorry to have approached you like this in the middle of the road.

Aman didn’t know what to say.

Would you like to show me the town?

I’m only ten years old! My parents wouldn’t let me.

They don’t have to know, we could be friends in secret.

    But you’re really old.

    Neither that much, I’m fifteen.

    Where are you from?

The north, from a small village, you should love it Florin smiled.

    I must leave, bye.

Wait, do you know the lovers' retreat? Tomorrow afternoon I'll be waiting for you there.

I don’t know that place Aman lied and left with big steps.

Aman knew where was that place because his brother went with other guys of his age to spy couples, and once he told her about it. It was about small circles that were in the forest completely surrounded by trees, where witchcraft was practiced before. Every circle had in the center rest of the fire where the witches made diverse slipslop. Also, they all had small rocks that served as witches' seats. Being separated from the town and not being well known by the people, some couples escaped and meet there.

Aman didn’t have the intention to meet Florin, and much less in a secluded place.

Florin. Every time she thought about it she laughed. She didn’t know why that name, despite being very common, it provoked laughter. But for some reason, she couldn’t get him out of her head. And suddenly, she felt a twinge behind her right ear.

Next day, same, she wasn’t thinking in another thing that wasn’t Florin, and it doesn’t provoke her laughter.

She felt the connection between they tow, even so, she didn’t intend to go to meet Florin.

Two days passed without news about Florin. While she was washing clothes in a large bowl in the barn, someone opened the door and peered out. It was Florin. The amaze face of Aman was huge.

    How he dare? Aman thought.

Don’t give another step or I’ll scream.

Easy, I just wanted to check you were right, how you didn’t come to our date.

    Leave or I’ll scream.

Florin turned around with the intention of leaving, when he turned and said:

Today I’ll be waiting for you, don’t fail me and he left without saying anything else.

Aman didn’t know if Florin was crazy, or if he wanted to her something. She followed washing clothes thinking about what to do that afternoon, after a few minutes she made a decision.

That afternoon Aman went. At first with scared a little. She looked between the circles, they were all empty. Arrived
