    Political Vendetta - Charles Anene

    Kennedy International Airport:

Planes take off and land at Kennedy International Airport, as Agent Rogers, Perez, Bloomberg, and Lang enter the airport. They join the hustle and bustle throughout the airport, trying to get to the gate for Flight 107. The intercom announces that Flight 107 is boarding passengers for Bogotá, Colombia.

One last call for Flight 107 comes over the PA. Agent Rogers and the other agents rush to the gate just as the flight attendant prepares to shut the door to the plane. Passengers begin taking their seats, and the captain’s voice comes over the intercom.

Ladies and gentleman, this is your Captain, John Calvin, speaking. We’d like to welcome you on board Flight 107 to Bogotá, Colombia. Flight duration is around 5 hours and 37 minutes.

As the plane motors rev up for departure, Captain John Calvin speaks through the microphone to the Control Tower. This is Captain John Calvin, Flight 107, cleared for takeoff. The Control Tower responds back, You’re cleared, Flight 107, over.

Agent Rogers and the other DEA agents get comfortable in their seats. A map of Oscar Lucas’s estate is passed out amongst them. They all huddle together, discussing plans on how they will capture Oscar Lucas with the least bit of bloodshed.

Rogers whispers, Our goal is to capture Lucas dead or alive. This drug lord, Lucas, has one of the largest drug rings in Colombia and the whole of South America.

He continues, Drugs are being snuck into America daily by this drug dealer. An end has to come before America goes down the pipes like Colombia.

Our goal is to make sure there is no bloodshed of any of our agents or that of the Colombian forces, gruffly announces Agent Rogers.

Midway through the flight, a flight attendant stops and asks Agent Rogers and the others if they want anything to eat or drink. Agent Rogers orders dinner and whiskey sours for them all. As the flight attendant passes out the drinks and dinner, Rogers proposes a toast to finding Lucas dead or alive. The men all hold their glasses up and bump them together.

In unison, the men all say, Aye-aye.

A brief rest is in order, as the men know that once they arrive in Colombia, there will be no rest for the weary.

While the agents are sleeping, turbulence shakes the plane and startles them awake. The Fasten Seatbelt message flashes overhead. The pilot comes over the intercom.

This is your captain, John Calvin. We just hit some turbulence. There is no reason to be alarmed. Thank you for your patience.

The plane rocks and shakes violently as it descends for landing. Five hours, thirty-seven minutes after takeoff, Flight 107 is about to touch down at the Bogotá International Airport. The captain comes over the intercom once again.

This is your captain. Prepare for landing. We are approaching the airport in Bogotá, Colombia. Please fasten your seatbelts. Your safety is paramount to us.

As the plane lands, the Colombian drug forces stand at the gates impatiently awaiting the arrival of Agent Rogers and his team. Several of the Colombian drug force agents check their watches and pace the floors awaiting the arrival of Flight 107. A limousine waits outside the airport’s arrivals gate. A team of drug enforcement agents remains in the van, briefing and mapping out Lucas’s estate.

    Bogotá, Colombia:

This is your captain once again. We have arrived in Bogotá, Colombia. Please be careful and check to make sure you have all your belongings and exit at the back of the plane. Thank you for flying the friendly skies.

Agents Rogers and the other agents get up and make their way towards the back of the aircraft. Agent Rogers turns to Agent Bloomberg.

Bloomberg, are you ready for this night?

Bloomberg smiles and nods his head as he steps off the plane.

Bogotá, Colombia - Bogotá International Airport:

DEA Agents from New York City’s central office meet up with the Colombian drug forces in Bogotá, Colombia. While at the airport, agents continue to monitor Lucas’s conversation through high-tech surveillance equipment. Agent Jose with the Colombian drug force waits at the gate for Agent Rogers. Moments after the passengers get off the plane, Agent Jose approaches the gate and shakes hands with Agent Rogers.

It’s nice to see you again, Agent Rogers. It has always been a joy to work with you and your agents. We have been anxiously waiting for you all to get here and help us bury this son of a bitch in his grave, states Agent Jose, coldly.

Agent Rogers laughs, Hopefully, we can help you do that, partner!

Agent Jose grills the team on what they have learned through listening in on conversations coming from Oscar Lucas’s mansion.

    Oscar Lucas’s Mansion:

Oscar Lucas, a leader of a Colombian drug cartel, is seen with his family celebrating their success. Two of his bodyguards, armed with rifles, guard the house. Outside the house, the guards are patrolling the compound with their guns and rifles and simultaneously smoking cigarettes. Some are poking fun amongst themselves. At the guard house at the front gate, one of Lucas’s bodyguards notice movement on the ultraviolet surveillance screen.

Meanwhile, law enforcement covertly creep inside the compound. The guard yells into the radio in Spanish, Pigs on the ground! All the guards grab their guns and rifles, ready for combat. They immediately start firing at the DEA and Colombian law enforcement. DEA and Colombian law enforcement return fire, killing a couple of Lucas’s bodyguards. Lucas and two of his bodyguards overhear the shooting from inside the house. He advises his wife to take the kids into hiding.

Lucas rushes to his cabinet, where he hides all his guns. He grabs an M-16A1 rifle and heads outside with two of his bodyguards. Agent Rogers spots Oscar Lucas with two of his bodyguards as they slip outside of the mansion and creep along the side of the house. The DEA and Colombian security forces surround Lucas and open fire, shooting and killing Oscar Lucas. Lucas falls face down in a puddle of his blood. Lucas coughs and gasps for air as he succumbs to death.

After shooting Oscar Lucas, the DEA, heavily- armed and on-guard, surround the house and are about to breach when Gabriel Lucas, Oscar’s brother, age 20, emerges on the rooftop with his rifle. He rushes along the chimney hoping not to be seen by the law enforcement agents.

Agent Rogers spots Gabriel Lucas and speaks into his headphones. One suspect is exiting the rooftop.

    Agent Perez responds, Roger that.

Agent Perez quickly slips from behind the large oak tree, aims, fires, and kills Gabriel Lucas. He falls from the rooftop face down. Blood flows from his ears, mouth, and nose. A bullet exits his back. Blood outlines the body where Gabriel Lucas dropped.

A gun battle continues between Agents Rogers, Bloomberg, Lang, the Colombian security forces, and Lucas’s bodyguards. A massive volley of gunfire strikes and kills guards in every direction. Dead bodies lay on top of each other, scattered around the mansion grounds. When the gun battle is finally over, none of Lucas’s bodyguards are left standing. All fifty guards had been shot. Only two are still alive, but they are suffering from life-threatening injuries.

Agent Jose and his team, along with Agent Rogers and the DEA, dance around giving high fives as they load back into the van.

We did it, with no casualties on our side, shouts Agent Jose. Thanks to the American DEA, we have conquered another bloody drug bust. Agent Jose stands by the van and high fives each agent as they get inside.

Bogotá, Colombia - Bogotá International Airport:

Agent Jose, beaming from ear to ear, shakes hands with Agent Rogers as he and the other DEA agents from New York are about to enter the plane. Thanks to you and your men, we didn’t lose any of our guys during this drug bust!

Agent Rogers nods his head as he responds, Thank God for that! We will catch you next time, partner. Hopefully, we have settled or at least gotten the drug problem here well under control. With any luck, we can bring under control illegal drugs crossing the borders. Catch you on the next trip!

New York City – Drug Enforcement Agency:

While the crisis continues to take place in Colombia, in New York City, agents at the DEA busily sweep in and out of the building. Cars are parked on both sides of the street.

A state car stops in front of the building. Two agents in DEA outerwear exit the unmarked car and drag a suspected drug dealer in handcuffs into the building. The drug dealer screams and yells obscenities at the drug enforcement officers throughout the halls.

Agent Rogers enters the debriefing room and starts scrutinizing the Colombian showdown. Agents Perez, Bloomberg, Lang, and Perkins, all of them wearing DEA outerwear, come into the room one by one with their morning coffees in their hands.

Agent Rogers pulls out a chair and stands at the head of the table. He tosses his files down. First things first, I want to give kudos to all you for the excellent job you did last week in Bogotá. We took care of those sons of bitches, and they are gone for good.

DEA agents drag a drug dealer shackled in heavy leg irons by the room. Other agents look out in the hall to see what is happening. Being distracted by the noise in the corridor, Agent Rogers closes the door, comes and sits down at the head of the table, and continues praising the agents on his team.

"But, however, I just received a report from our customs officers in New York advising that another influx of heroin has made
