    Sea Tales - Annalise Grey

Dedicated to seafarers & lovers of all things nautical.

    Untitled

    THE OCEAN SINGS

    her songs to me

as I lay upon the sand

    letting my worries drop

    one

    by

    one

    like water from my hand

    -ANNALISE GREY

    Adrift at Sea

    MY MIND IS AN OCEAN

    Storms arrive with gnashing teeth.

    My boat is still afloat.

    .

    Whales slosh by

    Spewing water

    In my eyes.

    .

    A million stars glitter above

    And the ocean’s lull

Rocks me to sleep in the cabin’s hull.

    .

    The wind gales rock me

    From side to side,

As I remain adrift at sea.

    -MARY BONE

    Salt water cure

    FROM THE ROCKING OF waves

against the shoreline of my South Carolina home,

the sea, in all it’s terrible glory, has been a great comfort.

    .

When my eldest son went to Afghanistan

I sat for hours on end

with my toes in the bubbling waves

wondering if my little boy would live to see

    another sunset.

    .

The day he finally came home,

more than a little worse for wear,

it was another kind of salt water that brought us together.

    .

Oh, I knew all too well how

war breaks the mighty until crippled.

    .

    And though it isn’t manly,

Vietnam taught me that tears can be healing

when shed in defiance of social norms.

    .

    Now,

my boy and I share a spot in the sand

    as we watch the waves.

    .

    We sit quietly,

grateful for the separation of years and miles

and, of course, for the gentle wonder of

    water.

    -J.P. FULTON

    A sailor’s toast

    HERE’S TO THE GIRLS

    who fill up our days

with kisses so sweet it hurts

    AND HERE’S TO THE GIRLS

    lingering in doors

waiting to lift up their skirts

    -JACK REDSON

    Sea-Coal

THE LAST NIGHT THE sky shook with thunder

    .

the sea-coal fled their beds on the ocean floor

    huddled together on the shores

    looking for a new home

    and found

    only people

    who wanted them

    to burn.
