About this ebook

Soothing the body and inner spirit was second nature to Mira’s ability as a psychic and massage therapist. From early childhood, she was open to the gift inside her. As an adult, she intended to establish herself in the world of healing. Until that could be achieved, she took a job as a secretary in an insurance agency.
The day Damien entered the office seeking employment, her caring for others went out to him. With his own psychic nature, Damien recognized Mira immediately. But for him, the ability to see into other’s lives had always brought him trouble.
At first, Mira only intended to help him find peace, but as their relationship continued, love began to bloom. Resisting Damien’s advances, Mira had to face with her own problems when it came to opening up to another on such an intimate level. As they explore both their abilities and differences, a crossroad is set before them. Can they work together or will what has to be done destroy their tender bond.

    CHAPTER 1

THE OFFICE WAS AS BUSY as a beehive, which was just how Mira liked it. At her computer, she had just completed a letter when her boss, Mr. Mayfield, entered. Though approaching sixty, with only a touch of gray at the temples of his chestnut brown hair, he strolled up to her obviously in command. Saving the current document she was working on, Mira handed him two files from her desk.

On the ball as always, Mr. Mayfield said as he thumbed through the paperwork. Looking down at his pretty receptionist, he smiled. Mira was just what the office had needed. Her soft brown eyes held such warmth and suited her long narrow face, framed by a mass of thick brown curly hair. At five-six she was a bundle of energy. I hate the thought of losing you one day, he grumbled playfully.

Glancing at her desk calendar, Mira smiled. Twenty months, she said proudly, for Mira had plans.

Armed with an AA degree in Human Development, Mira had gone on to get her training as a Massage Therapist. Like her mother and grandmother, she cared about people’s physical and emotional needs. Where the two generations before had entered the medical profession as nurses, Mira had chosen a different path. But the three generations had something else in common, for they all had the sight.

As far back as the family could remember, their women had been blessed with the ability to see into people. Some of Mira’s earliest memories were of these insights. Sometimes the emotions confused, but never frighten her due to the careful guidance from her mother and grandmother. With their help, she had learned to use her ability to help others. As a Massage Therapist, Mira felt she could not only soothe the body, but comfort the soul.

Planning for her future, Mira’s goal was to have her practice established two years after completing her training. While striving to establish herself in the medical community and building her clientele, she still needed to eat. Not being independently wealthy, she decided taking a job as an insurance receptionist would be an interesting diversion.

I’ll just have to work on you to change your mind, Mr. Mayfield said with a chuckle and walked off.

Leaning over, CeCe whispered teasingly into Mira’s ear. Sucking up to the boss? Grinning, Mira turned back. Every chance I get.

The two women were the same age and loved to playfully badger each other. As a slim highly fashionable gal, CeCe more often than not could be found with her nose stuck in the latest issue of Vogue. Whereas Mira was on the quiet side, CeCe loved to have her finger on the pulse of things. Anytime someone new and interesting came into the agency, CeCe’s curiosity was stirred. Such was the case when Damien Johnson walked into their building.

Cute! CeCe remarked as he entered the boss’s office. Saying nothing, Mira glanced up at the tall man who had come to see Mr. Mayfield. Turning back to her computer, Mira paused from the information she was logging in. Her mother had once said: Like recognizes like. From the moment the stranger had entered the room, Mira had sensed his ability. Other than her mother and grandmother, she had never been around others like herself. Curiosity had Mira rising from her desk. Picking up the report she had just finished, she went to Mr. Mayfield’s door.

I saw him first, CeCe whispered. Pausing, Mira responded playfully, Then you can have the first shot.

Tapping lightly on the door, she waited until she had been permitted to enter. Ah, good, you read my mind, Mr. Mayfield said as she stepped inside. Taking the folder she offered, he introduced Mira. Miss Righy is one of the best employees here, the boss boasted.

Blushing slightly, Mira looked into Damien’s eyes. You better not let CeCe hear you say that, Mira replied as she felt the newcomer’s mind brush hers.

Making eye contact, Mira found herself staring into pools of slate gray. Behind them, she could sense he was a moody individual. Involuntarily she jumped when he slammed a mental door between. Realizing Mr. Mayfield was watching her, Mira gave him a sheepish smile before quickly leaving the room.

Well, do you think the boss will hire him? CeCe asked excitedly as Mira settled back at her desk. There had been rumors of Mr. Mayfield taking on new staff. If he does, I’d like to get to know him. That is if he’s not married.

Sensing there wasn’t anyone special in Damien’s life, Mira could feel the dark cloud that surrounded him. It made her heart ache to realize the man was a troubled soul.

Tuning CeCe out, she gave the newcomer some thought. The people in the office knew about Mira’s unusual ability. She didn’t broadcast nor hide who she was. Instead, Mira used her talents to help those around her. When Damien had looked her way, she’d understood he’d
