About this ebook

A recap of Drew Doughty's 2014 Winter Olympic hockey tournament. Gleaned from the blog of Ogie Oglethorpe, it follows Drew's time throughout the Olympic process, from selection to gold medal game through the eyes of a mediocre blogger who was once the most feared enforcer in the Federal League and now blogs for shizz and giggles.

    - Note From Ogie June 2016

When I heard Drew Doughty won the Norris Trophy for Best Defenseman of the 2015-16 NHL season, I thought: that name sounds familiar.

I recalled writing something about him two years ago during the Sochi Olympics in Russia. So I went back into my blog and found not just one post featuring Drew, but an ongoing theme of growing optimistic Doughty-ism. I was obviously impressed by his performance, so much so I felt he was destined for great things in the coming years.

But then hockey and Drew fell off my radar. Being a life-long Chicago Blackhawks fan since 2010, my heart was crushed when Drew's Kings bounced the Hawks in seven games in 2014 for the Stanley Cup. [1]

Little did I remember I predicted this would happen in my Olympic blogs. So, at least I had that going for me.

The following is my exclusive unedited collection of my 2014 Olympic hockey posts, from the beginning announcement of the invites to Team Canada's training camp to the final gold medal game against Sweden. It's nothing ground-breaking, but maybe you will find a laugh or two, as I did when I re-read them. For the most part they are whole, complete with some vague references which are now pretty dated. I used lots of images from Google to underline some jokes. Sadly, I’ve decided to avoid any lawsuit possibility and made this a text only version. The complete thing, with humourous pictures can be found at jayroyston.blogspot.ca. Search -> Olympics.

Technically I don't believe I am even allowed to even use the word Olympics without engaging in some type of copyright infringement. Same goes with the names of the players involved. Maybe, if I am really lucky, Drew will help pay any legal bills. So read away and see how that small town boy from London, Ontario, Canada won an anonymous stranger’s respect during his journey into Olympic Canadian hockey history.

The following is the mostly unedited blog posts from (as
