Cindy and Dr. Tatum
*
The cell where Cindy was kept was large enough for her to pace back and forth inside. She had a bed, a sink, a metal mirror, and a toilet. All the comforts of home, if your home was a prison. The bed was a typical prison cot, and she had tried to sleep the first night on it, only to wake up suddenly when the mass of her extra heavy body exceeded the spring constant of the cheap springs in the cot and deformed the coils beyond repair. She woke up laying sideways on the floor in the dark, and she was so disgusted, she did not bother getting up. The next morning, the guard passed her breakfast to her through the opening in the door, and through the bars, he caught a glimpse of the broken bed in the cell. The guard knew going into the room was off limits, but he notified his supervisor on a walkie-talkie. A few minutes later, a higher ranking guard with more stripes on his sleeve came by, noted the damage on a clipboard, and then left without a word. Cindy was afraid to say anything, but she did expect that the bed would get fixed. Three days later, she decided that she may have been wrong about that assumption. She had misjudged the intents of her captors once again, but there was nothing that she could do about it. She rolled over the back of her hand and looked at the chip out that was missing on it, and she thought about the beating she had given the walls when she first arrived. The missing stone of her hand was slowly filling in, layer by layer like a scar, and soon there would be no evidence of the damage which she had inadvertently caused to herself. She then looked up at the dents and scratches in the wall; those were not going away, she thought with a half-smile, and she got to her feet and gave her best morning stretch. Reaching to the ceiling with her hands, tilting her head backward, and splitting her feet apart, she formed an x-shape with her body. She yawned as her head was leaned back and her eyes were pointed at the ceiling. When she completed her stretch, she lolled her head toward the door and looked at the bland oatmeal mix, boxed juice, and egg whites.
Blechh!
she said to herself, and she stuck out her tongue at the lukewarm food. There was no way she was eating that stuff again without first building an appetite, and she knelt back down on the floor and started doing pushups. She was a strong girl for her age, and when she had finished fifty the right way, not on her knees but on the toes of her feet, she rolled over onto her back to catch her breath. Then she did crunches until she had lost count. When the burn in her abs was too much to continue, she stopped and stretched out on the cold floor again until her lungs had stopped burning. Then she repeated this process over again three times until she was almost overheated. Since her body’s transformation into stone, sweat was impossible to come by, and if she was not careful, she could damage her internal organs. Since she had been here, the STUN agents had put her through a series
