EXCITEMENT TEMPERED by caution coursed through Faleena’s veins as the carriage swayed. She had never left Salia before, though her parents had taken her almost everywhere within the kingdom. But what made it even more exciting was that she was going to see the elves.
The education she had received had been the best any child of a mage could hope to receive. She had studied languages and different peoples and all forms of magic. However, elves had always seemed so elusive and secretive on their island in the south. Oh, they did have a small portion of the Rosiren continent claimed west of Fahsee and south of Salia, but it was mostly used to prevent direct access to the island from mainland Rosiren.
It had been less than a month since her nineteenth birthday, and her selection as an apprentice to Salia’s Archmage, Malik Frover, and this was the most excited Faleena could ever remember being in her life. Everything she had endured and learned had been worth it to become Malik’s apprentice and travel the world.
Peeking out the window, Faleena asked her mentor, How much longer until we reach Haven?
The older man chuckled, amused by his student’s eager tone. Malik had been fortunate to have tested Faleena as a child for magic and seen her potential. She had been stronger than most
