• A special chapter is assigned to the collapse of the theory of evolution because this theory constitutes the basis of all anti-spiritual philosophies. Since Darwinism rejects the fact of creation—and therefore, God's existence—over the last 150 years it has caused many people to abandon their faith or fall into doubt. This book was written right after the 9/11 attacks that were staged in the two big cities of the United States of America in 2001 and it was explained with verses from the Qur'an, the practices of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and examples from Islamic history that Islam denounces terrorism and that it is a religion of love and peace. However, terrorist attacks continued after 9/11, and spread to other countries including Great Britain, Spain, Iraq, Pakistan, Turkey and France. This prompted politicians, academicians, religious leaders, writers and all conscientious people all around the world, to look for solutions to terrorism, to understand its causes and to work out the steps that should be taken.

When this book was first written in 2002, it explained with evidence that terrorists, and most importantly their leaders, are selfish, cruel and merciless people who, as a result of Darwinist and materialist education they received, see life as a constant struggle where only the fittest survive. Such people came to believe that violence and wars were justified means to their ends. Al Qaeda was very active at that time. Since then, many other new terrorist organisations have emerged and they have used similar Islamic symbolism in their own ways in their attacks against civilians.

These groups are getting stronger with new recruits joining them from all around the world. This forces political, academic, and religious leaders to try to understand real Islam and determine ways to end terrorism with solutions from within the Islamic world. The Charlie Hebdo attack in France, the Christmas market attack in Germany, and almost daily acts of terrorism in countries such as Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan have shown that the Islamic world needs to focus on this issue with caution and urgency. And a brief examination will reveal that at the root of the problem lies the fact that the groups supposedly acting on behalf of Islam do not base their action on the Qur'an and the life of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), but a bigoted and paganistic religion, which emerged after the death of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and is essentially a far cry from Islam.

This deeply flawed understanding is diametrically opposed to Islam, which is a religion that favours peace over war, life over death, forgiveness over punishment, and reconciliation over conflict. The fact that their ID cards indicate Islam as their religion or that they have Muslim names does not prove that these individuals act in the name of Islam. This radical mentality which allegedly legitimizes violence against non-Muslims, and even against Muslims if they have different views or if they don't practice Islam or if they follow a different sect, is a grave spiritual problem of the world today.

In this expanded edition of the book, we have included the sources of terrorism that result from this bigoted view of religion and how it needs to be countered intellectually. We hope that it will help those who seek solutions by force come to realize that twisted philosophical and religious interpretations cannot be ended with mere military means. What needs to be done is not to eliminate the people with this mentality, but to wipe these distorted ideas from their minds. And hopefully the money currently being squandered on weapons will be spent on education instead and they will join forces with illuminated, modern, loving and sensible Muslims.

As Muslims, we strongly condemn all the terrorist attacks around the world, including those on two major cities of the United States of America on September 11, 2001, which caused the death and injury of thousands of innocent people.

The 9/11 attacks propelled the important issue of the true source of terrorism to the forefront of the world agenda. Thus, it has been announced to the entire world that Islam is a religion of peace and love that summons individuals to compassion and justice. Many world leaders, leading media organisations, television and radio stations said that the Islam defined in the Qur'an by no means permits any terrorist attacks on innocent people, and commands peace between people and between nations. The Western circles that have come to a full grasp of the morality of Islam and are well-informed about Islam as commanded by God in the Qur'an noted clearly that the words Islam and terror cannot stand side by side, and that no Divine religion permits terrorist attacks.

This book maintains that the source of the terror that we condemn is definitely not from a Divine religion, and that there is no room for terrorism in Islam. This is made clear in the Qur'an, the sole source of Islam, and in the practices of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and many other Muslim rulers. However, there have also been groups throughout history that interpreted the religion of Islam according to fabricated hadiths and superstitions that were produced after the Qur'an. As a result of following such superstitions that justify violence, these groups have carried out many terrorist atrocities that our beautiful religion strictly forbids.

This book reveals, in the light of the verses of the Qur'an and the practices of our Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) with examples from history, that terrorism is forbidden and bringing peace and security to the world is aimed in Islam.

As is known, for centuries, various acts of terrorism have been carried out in different parts of the world by different groups for a variety of purposes. Sometimes a communist organisation, sometimes a fascist group, and sometimes radical and separatist factions assume responsibility for these acts. While some countries like America have recently often become the target of attacks by racist and marginal terrorist groups, the European countries have been centre stage for violent acts carried out by terrorist groups. 17 November in Greece, the RAF (Red Army Faction) and Neo-Nazis in Germany, ETA in Spain, the Red Brigades in Italy and many other organisations killed innocent and defenceless people through terror and violence. The PKK, a Marxist and Stalinist terrorist organisation, has been carrying out terrorist attacks for the past 40 years in the south-eastern part of Turkey resulting in the martyrdom of tens of thousands of people. The nature of terrorism changes with changing world conditions and increases its impact and power with the new means made possible by high technology. In particular, mass communication tools such as the Internet extend the scope and influence of the terrorist activities considerably.

Besides the Western organisations, there are also other terror organisations of Middle East origin. Terrorist attacks are carried out by these groups in all corners of the world. The fact that the perpetrators of various terrorist acts carry Christian, Muslim or Jewish identities cause some people to put forward claims which do not concur with Divine religions. The truth is that even if terrorists have Muslim identities, the terror they perpetrate cannot be labelled Islamic terror, just as it could not be called Jewish terror if the perpetrators were Jews or Christian terror if they were Christians. That is because, as will be examined in the following pages, all the Divine religions command peace and love, and murdering innocent people in the name of a Divine religion is unacceptable. These people misinterpret the holy Scriptures that God sent to people for peace and brotherhood, and through their self-invented superstitions, work to allegedly legitimize violence against people from different beliefs and thereby completely violate their faith in the process. We need to keep in mind that, among those who were killed in terror attacks, for example in New York, London, Paris, Berlin or Tel Aviv, there were people who loved the Prophet Jesus (pbuh) (Christians), the Prophet Moses (pbuh) (Jews) and the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) (Muslims). Unless forgiven by God, murdering innocent people is a great sin that leads to torment in hell. No one who is religious, and loves and fears God would commit such a murder.

The aggressors, regardless of which faith they claim to be a member of, may commit such violence either out of ignorance or with the intention of misusing religion for their own ends, or out of their enmity against religion. This violence divorces people from religion and generates hatred towards those who are religiously inclined. Consequently, every attack on innocent people having a so-called religious facade is actually an attack made against religion.

Religion commands love, mercy and peace. Terror, on the other hand, is the opposite of religion; it is cruel, merciless and demands bloodshed and misery. This being the case, the origins of a terrorist act should be sought in disbelief or in radical and bigoted views that misinterpret the commands of religion rather than in religion itself. People with a fascist, communist, racist, materialist or radical outlook on life should be suspected as potential perpetrators. The name or the identity of the triggerman is not important: If he can kill innocent people without so much as batting an eye, then he cannot possibly represent a Divine religion. For this reason, Islamic terror is an erroneous concept which contradicts the message of Islam. The religion of Islam can by no means countenance terrorism. On the contrary, terror (i.e. murder of innocent people) in Islam is a great sin, and Muslims are responsible for preventing these acts and bringing peace and justice to the world.

Some of those who say that they are members of a particular religion and something is done in the name of that religion may, in fact, misunderstand that religion and as a result, practice it wrongly. For that reason, it would be very wrong to form ideas about a religion or make judgments based on people's actions. The best way of understanding a religion is to study its Divine source.

Islam's Divine source is the Qur'an, which is based on concepts of morality, love, compassion, humility, sacrifice, understanding and peace. A Muslim who lives by those precepts in its true sense will be most polite, careful of thought, modest, decent, noble, just, trustworthy and easy to get on with. He/she will spread love, respect, harmony and the joy of living all around him. Despite this fact, the Qur'an and Islam have been associated with the word fear in recent years thus causing Islamophobia to spread even more. However, the real source of the fear in people's hearts isn't Islam; it is the religion of bigotry. The radicals that act in the name of Islam and the Islamophobes who fear those radicals, are making the same mistake. Both parties fail to grasp that Islam has nothing to do with the religion of bigotry, which is a horrid and hateful system devoid of love. For this reason, it is crucial to understand the real meaning of Islam according to the Qur'an and to show the grave mistake of those who are trying to associate terrorism with it.

Looking at the evidences those who commit violence in the name of Islam offer in order to legitimize these murders, one sees that these are the superstitions included in some of the works regarded as the main Islamic sources in many countries of the world of Islam.
