About this ebook

Juno thought she would be leaving all the troubles of her love life behind when she fled California to pursue a new life as a schoolteacher in rural America. However, her sensuous and temperamental nature does not fit well in this conservative environment.

Restless at night, she wanders alone near the river, when she is suddenly trapped by a net and captured by aliens. They interrogate her, locking her in a dark, windowless room on their home world, which intensifies her isolation and despair. Little does she realize, the aliens are intrigued by their analysis of her, particularly her sexual perversion, which is unlike anything they have seen in their cold and unresponsive females.

A series of further meetings ensue, with an alien “psychoanalyst” called Olaznog. His objective queries quickly turn into discussions of a more personal nature, and Juno can tell the alien is falling for her. But is it so simple? Is Juno destined for love of the most forbidden variety, or is there something far more insidious at play?

The Abduction is a 13,000-word novella.

Serge de Moliere

Author Serge de Moliere lives and writes in New York City where he draws on the incredible diversity of this great Metropolis. His stories and characters are inspired by the colors, sensations, turbulence and passion of the urban landscape. They include flash fiction as well as novellas and range from contemporary tales to erotic or sci fi and romantic fantasy. Characters express the ethnic blend of urban America. Camera shy, Serge dives into the urban milieu as if swimming underwater as he snares the strands of a new story, weaving into the final fabric an assortment of threads, some real, some apocryphal, some human, some less so. He also indulges in mixed metaphors. Chapter One

    Abduction

Your damn skirts are too short, Juno! You’re a teacher, not a harlot!

Juno sighed. Jilted by her lover back in L.A., she had relocated, seeking something better, or at least different. Already, two months in, her new job was in jeopardy.

The Dean barked hoarsely, wagging a stubby index finger. Too short! It’s against local community values. His jowls shook with agitation and his sparse white hair was edged with frost as he raged.

They’re barely above the knee, practically prudish. Puffing her cheeks, Juno smoothed down her skirt. I will not dress as if I’m an aged and ugly spinster! It’s my choice. This may not be Southern California, but it’s still the good old USA! Running her hand through her shoulder length hair, she wrinkled her nose. Single and living alone, she refused to look like an old maid with no hope of love or sex. However, her protest didn’t move him.

Frowning, the Dean shook his head. You’re out and that’s final!

Juno bit her lip. For goodness sakes, most of the sixteen year olds show bare midriffs and wear shorts that scarcely cover their crotch! Why must I be a prude?

His leathery face cracked in disgust, the wrinkles’ deep crevices oozing dislike. Get out!

Juno shook her head. Did she remind him of his daughter, whom he disowned? Racing home, she threw herself down on her bed and cried. Why did I ever leave L.A.? she asked herself for the millionth time. The hasty decision had been a mistake.

The hours passed. It was after midnight. Restless, Juno tossed, sitting up, unable to sleep. Her small apartment was in a suburban, almost rural area, in Des Moines. Dressing, she walked out. At this hour, it was deserted. The air was clear, cold. She took a breath. Only the croaking of a frog or the crisp chirping of a cricket violated the stillness.

Juno loved to stroll in the moonlight by the river. It was pleasant to wander alone under the stars, to wander about the hills and sprouting foliage with no one else around. The lunar sphere was orange-yellow, with the hazy, corn-colored corona that appears before an early morning’s rain. With a happy cry, she skipped and frolicked like a school girl. I’m only twenty-six, still young, she told herself, throwing her arms in the air.

Kneeling, she pulled a handful of fragrant, dewy grass from the earth, pretended it was a lover’s thick and curly thatch, then threw it in the air and watched it scatter on a gentle breeze. A shadow crossed the moon’s grainy cheeks like an edged razor depilating its stubble. She inhaled deeply. The frigid breeze was fresh, scented with evergreen and pine.

    Kkenny rottish herrrduh hummmm.

What? The sounds were inhuman. Juno shivered; her mouth was dry.

Suddenly, a sticky net dropped over her, a giant spider web lowered from the heavens by a horrid, stealthy insect. It trapped her, tangling her slender arms and thighs.

    "Help, help! For the Lord’s
