    Pale Blood - Jason Benton

    JASON BENTON

    Chapter One

She knew that they would be coming any minute. In due time, they would be showing up with pitchforks, clubs, axes, and the like. Then, they would be leaving with her husband’s decapitated head.

What a lot of people don’t realize is that it’s possible to kill vampires with more than just a stake. When a vampire is confronted, he is paralyzed by fears of the crucifix or Christian crosses. That part of the myth is true.

She saw their torches growing brighter in the deep, dark sky. There were eight of them – more than enough to deal homicide to her husband. There was a really tall dude, a short one, and even a guy hobbling around with a cane – hardly a powerful opponent. They were filthy and mostly bearded. When they approached, the smell of rotten ass got more and more pungent.

She perked out her plump lips as she watched them quickly hustle up her dirt driveway. Her black
