About this ebook

Jesus prophesied that Elijah will come. He also stated that John the Baptist was Elijah. Both are true. We as Christians await the revelation of Elijah who will herald the coming of Messiah Yeshua or Jesus Christ. But in what manner should we expect him? Will he arrive suddenly on the scene without warning as the first two Elijah's did? There was little warning of John the Baptist coming on the scene in Scripture. His birth was miraculous much like Jesus' birth was as it was given by God's intervention.
Elijah may not be what the world is expecting in that he will not adhere to common theology. Scripture tells us he will purify the sons of Levi with fire and brimstone style preaching. This book fictionalizes what will eventually become reality in the Church world.

    The Dream

He put down his Bible after reading from Isaiah Chapter 13. He pondered the prophecies he had just read. Had they come to pass or were they future prophecies? He turned over to try to find a more comfortable position. I wonder who the Medes are? Why are you going to send them against Babylon? I love prophecy, even if it seems hard to understand at times. He drifted off to sleep. He slept until about midnight. That was all he managed before awakening.

The sweat poured down Elijah’s face as he lie in bed. He wasn’t quite sure what to make of the dream or nightmare, he had just experienced. One thing was for sure, he wasn’t going to forget it. It had been too real. He grabbed a facial tissue from the nightstand and wiped his brow first, then the rest of his face.

He prayed a silent prayer before returning to his sleep mode. He wanted nothing to do with nightmares. Lord, let me have a better dream. He turned over, then turned back the other way. His head finally found the sweet spot, and he fell back asleep. There were no other dreams that he could remember when he woke up.

I’m very proud of you Elijah, said his mother when he came into the kitchen for breakfast.

    Why?

You did every one of your chores yesterday without me having to tell you to.

Yeah, and I’ve got callouses to prove it.

His mother let out a laugh.

Those callouses will build your character.

Right now they are building up my hands. See the bumps?

Don’t worry, it won’t hurt once they harden.

Well I hope they harden quickly, ‘cause right now they hurt quite a bit.

The pancakes and eggs disappeared quickly. Elijah had some place to go this particular morning. He said goodbye to his mother and rushed out the door. He didn’t tell her where he was going. His feet moved faster than they had ever moved in the recent history of his life.

Living in the woods, he had to be careful just where he stepped. There were snakes and other dangers he needed to watch for. He kept to the trail for most of his journey. It was only for the last part that he left the safety of the trail. He had to if he was going to get to his favorite spot.

He eyed the small mountain. It would take him about forty-five minutes to reach the top. The breakfast will give me the energy I need to climb today. Carefully he started off the trail. He didn’t like leaving the safety of the trail, but it was a necessary evil to reach his favorite spot, which overlooked the valley below him.

Each step was carefully calculated. This was no easy task, even though he had been coming here since he was eight years old. Someday I just might tell my mother where I go when I leave early in the morning. She really only cares that I finish my chores, before leaving.

Climbing slowly was the reason why it took him so long to reach the top of the hill. It really wasn’t that big of a hill, but it was dangerous due to its jagged features. He had figured out the easiest way long ago, but it was still dangerous. If he fell, no one knew where to find him. He had told no one about his favorite spot.

At last! He stood on top of the small hill and overlooked the valley below him. You sure do beautiful work Lord! There was a large tree stump that had been there since his youth. It never grew, even with all the rain that came and went in this mountainous region. I know you made this seat just for us to be able to commune Lord. Thank you very much, Lord, he said out loud, trusting his voice wouldn’t reveal his location to anyone.

He had to travel a half an hour just to reach this hill. It was visible enough, but in all his years of coming to this location, Elijah hadn’t seen one soul around this area. He chalked it up to God giving him a special spot to meet with Him. This was his and God’s time. He didn’t want to share it with anyone else.

Lord, thanks for the good weather. I love it when the ground is nice and dry. It allows me to come up here to meet with you. Not that I mind the rain, but you know I don’t dare chance climbing up this hill in wet weather. That would not be a smart move. As it is written; ‘Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God; quoted Elijah out loud for God to hear.

I hate having to keep silent all the time when I’m talking to you Lord. Just because people can’t see you, is no reason to pretend you don’t exist or to only speak to you in private unless praying for others.

There was a moment of silence as he waited for a response from the Lord. In the silence he felt God smile. I know you hear me, even if you don’t or can’t speak to ME out loud Lord. I’d probably fall down dead or something, mused Elijah.

All those people down in that valley Lord. I wonder how many are speaking to you right now. I wonder how many people need Thy tender mercies at this very moment. I pray for those you find worthy to answer Lord.

A deep breath was taken in by Elijah. He exhaled and watched the cool morning air as it came out of his mouth returning in the form of carbon dioxide for the trees and plants to breath.

Out with the old, and in with the new, he said. He exhaled again, watching his breath as before.

A million questions filled his mind. How could you make something from nothing, Lord? Is nothing a substance or is it just nothing as we perceive nothing? I know you just were, but is that because time wasn’t in existence at that time? Do you ever get tired of me asking questions?

This was Elijah’s and God’s time. He spent countless hours thinking up questions and getting answers to only a few of them during his lifetime. I wish you could answer more of my questions sooner rather than later. It would make me understand things better I think.

Another moment of silence passed as Elijah listened for a response from God. It wasn’t always easy for him to hear what God said. Sometimes he thought he was just making up the answers in his own head. But this didn’t daunt his spirit any. He knew God was always listening. He never slept. Wow, what a concept. I wonder what it feels like to never get tired enough to need sleep?

It’s time for me to go Lord. I’ll come back as soon as possible. I just have chores to do, which I’m sure you know about.

Elijah started down the hill slowly. He watched his footing. My mom is expecting me home so don’t let me slip Lord. He finished his descent and walked slowly through the brush until he reached the trail. He ran the rest of the way home. He didn’t want his mother to worry about him being gone too long.

He reached home a little winded. He sat on the front porch step to catch his breath before entering into the house. When he regained his stamina, he entered. His mother was busy dusting the furniture. She smiled before speaking.

    Where you been?

Me and God needed to talk.

    Oh, important stuff?

Not really. Not this time. Mostly I just asked Him questions.

You know, God answers in His time.

I know. But I’ve asked Him a million and one questions. I hope He doesn’t forget them all.

    You know God doesn’t forget.

Yeah, but just the same, I don’t even remember all the questions I have asked Him.

    "He’ll
