- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I kept pausing, the stories are hard-hitting, well written. This author is a master at her craft
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5#4 tie-breaker rankingThese well-written, cohesive stories meld together to form a collection offering a glimpse at contemporary African life. The stories offer an especially compelling look at female Africans struggling to balance both tradition and independence. The author skillfully interweaves certain stories (a character from one story appears in a minor role in a second story; an event from one story is referenced in another). This rewards the perceptive reader and effectively demonstrates the reality that one person’s experience of life can so radically differ from another’s simultaneous experience.
