n South Carolina, during the 1850s, an enslaved woman named Rose packed a sack containing a few precious items for joined me to unpack the contents of Ashley’s sack, exploring what each of the items it held - from a handful of pecans to a braid of hair- can tell us about women’s experiences of slavery.
