About this ebook
Traditional Nordic patterns can be seen everywhere, from the catwalk to the high street. In this book from new knit designer Eline Oftedal, four iconic Norwegian knitting patterns - Marius, Voss, Setesdal and Fana - are given new shapes and forms. Includes stories about the inspiration and traditions behind each of the patterns, charting their origins and exploring what it is about these patterns that so appeals to knitters all over the world. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is such a user-friendly knitting book! I've always wanted to take up nordic knitting so this book was of interest to me. I consider myself to be an experienced knitter and have seen a lot of different knitting books. What I liked about this book were the easy-to-understand instructions, the gorgeous photos and the wide variety of projects, from iPhone covers to sweaters. Each pattern came with its own colour chart as well. The hat patterns were adorable!
I learned a few things about knitting from this book. First of all, be careful when you choose your wool colours. Whole balls of yarn side by side do not give the correct contrast when used in a nordic knitting project. Take a picture and look at it in black and white so that you can see the contrast. Also, nordic knits are very warm because they are insulated due to the double layer of yarn.
There was a helpful knitting needle conversion chart as well as a glossary of terms.
I highly recommend this book to knitters of all levels. I would love to have this in hard copy. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5If you, like me, are intimidated by the Nordic style of knitting, this is a great book to help you learn it. The author takes four traditional patterns, and instead of teaching you how to knit a sweater with each, she gives you patterns that range from things as simple as a square potholder to as complicated as a tank top to as modern as a tablet or phone cover. She also includes a great section explaining stranded knitting, and all the other techniques called for in these patterns. (Provided by publisher)
