His story seemed eerily similar to mine in many aspects. The other members of our support group listened intently as Kenny narrated his tale of tragedy and woe. I guess I was listening. I heard it all. I guess I was just emotionally detaching myself from it all for my own good. After all, I had already gone through my own personal hell. Hearing this man narrate the sad details of his own sad experience with justice, or the lack of it would only reinforce my belief that the system and the world had gone to hell. I guess I just wanted to insulate myself from any further trauma, and that could not have been a bad thing, could it?

I heard the man sharing his horrific ordeal to the group, but I wasn't listening. Somehow, I managed to emotionally detach myself from the room, almost as if I had entered a strange out of body experience.

A technicality! The courts let him go on a technicality! Can you fucking believe that?
