When Love Ignites: Five Stories of Beginnings
()
About this ebook
Why love? In five different situations in as many stories love strikes, sometimes in an unusual way. What happens next remains uncertain, but the couples have a foundation for the future. Much has been written about love at first sight. Does it exist or should it be called a “possibility of love at first sight”? Somehow people have a way of knowing of their future compatibility even though there are still many obstacles to face before a solid romance develops. Some of the factors are locational, and mutual interest seems important. Still, like lightning, love comes frequently when it is totally unexpected, as these stories of initial encounter show.

About the Author
Introduction
The settings are far different, as are the situations. But the spark of love will not be denied when it chooses to ignite.
A deep emotional commitment seems to be a necessary factor for a full life. Even hermits need love, as one of the stories that follows shows. And tough Marines are susceptible to long legs and flashing eyes, as another chronicles.
These are not steamy tales. Some of the characters remain for a time totally unaware that Cupid is setting the agenda. And the stories are open-ended, leaving the reader to speculate on the possibility of a happy ending, just like in life.
1. An Encounter at the Irish Bar
Larkin waited a bit until his eyes adjusted. There were old men at the bar, and most had a face that would resemble Patty's pig.
He felt good. A return to the roots. This part of New York was known for its Irish bars and Irish people. He found the bar through an ad in the Irish Echo.
All he wanted was to relax, have a black beer and pass the two weeks he had visiting the Big Apple. Then he saw her dancing. She did not have the figure of a dancer. She was much too heavy on top. But she had legs that looked like they ran to the armpits.
And that Irish music filled the soul.
Then a portly middle-aged man grabbed and hugged her. It is so nice to see you at home,
the man said. She walked with him to the bar, and there was a woman, clearly a mother, who hugged her, too.
She was a beauty. Red hair cropped as if she had been in prison. Clearly athletic with her participation in the step dance. He thought for a moment she might have smiled in his direction. That gave him a bit of courage to move to the bar where she was downing a black beer.
How are you?,
he said.
She turned abruptly and answered quickly. Just fine.
Who the hell are you?
the mother said.
"I'm just a guy who likes step dancing. But I have not done
