The man who had married someone else, had no idea they had created a life together and he was now a father.

Secrets and Betrayal caused Jason Moretti to miss out on the love of his life. The worse thing was dealing with the hurt of knowing that the woman he loved, the woman he wanted to marry never loved him.

Jason Moretti: Divorced, age 33; Wealthy, Big-City CEO, an IV League graduate with a Law Degree. Now one of the most successful Development & Investments moguls in the US and head of one of Chicago's most prominent families. Saddened by the death of longtime family friend Nina Simons or as he called her (Aunt Nina). Attending her funeral was a must even knowing that he may have to face a part of his past that to this day conjured feelings of betrayal, anger and hurt. 'Dymond Watson'.

Still fresh in his mind was the memory of the first time he saw her on the steps of Roosevelt University. Her dark brown skin and beautiful yet shy smile drew him like a magnet. He just knew then that she was meant to be his. Anger washed over him at the thought of how she left him without explanation. But the worst part was knowing that he still dreamed about holding her body next to his, still imagined her soft voice whispering his name.

Questions:
Can a funeral and the last wishes of the recently departed Loved One bring together divided hearts?
Can love rebuild what secrets destroyed?
Will Dymond learn to let go of her fears and embrace her deepest desires?
Will Jason put aside the anger and hurt of the past, and lay claim to a love that is rightfully his?

Excerpt:

"No!" her response was more to the question in her head than to Jason's statement.

"This color really looks beautiful against your skin Dy. Like mocha covered in sunlight" he whispered tapping gently at the spot where his hand stopped.

"Oh, and I am more than serious; you will be my wife in every aspect. I expect you in my bed every night, naked, willing and ready. I'll decide what restraints if any." Jason smiled as the vision only he could see flashed in his mind. "Since you are not married to Bruce and I don't share, whatever Bruce is to you, it ends now."

"Jason please, Bruce is my?."

He never gave her the chance to finish, and his next words open the flood gate of need so raw Dymond wanted to scream for him to touch her, beg if she had to, for what she didn't quite know but Jason had it.

"Maybe if I keep this hot little body of yours primed, moist and filled you'll be more likely to remember who you belong to."

His warm breath fanned the side of her neck, causing the fine hairs on her body to rise as if drawn to electricity.

"There will be no barriers between us; you'll be my wife in every way."

    Introduction

The Plan: Go home to Chicago for her Aunt Nina’s funeral; quickly take care of Nina’s estate and any last minute bills her aunt may have had and then return to her quite life, to the place that she’s called home for the last 3 and a half years Sutton, West Virginia.

But thanks to her aunts will nothing was going as planned.

Dymond knew that going to the funeral meant reliving old memories, seeing old friends and admitting to herself that if not for her three year old daughter she would’ve been alone in the world now having no other living relatives.

The Unexpected: Missing the very funeral she flew hundreds of miles to attend and her last chance to say good-bye to the woman who raised her. Winding up in the hospital was like a bad dream. What could be more unplanned than that? "Yeah this day was just bad all around: Death, Secrets an Angry Ex and an untimely Hospital trip. This might be worse than bad. Who the crap plans for any of this?

    Beyond The Secrets

A Final Goodbye! The Worse Time to Say Hello

    Chapter 1

The sunlight was beaming through the windows in Dymond’s small bedroom as she reluctantly turned over. Squinting through sleep laden eyelids to locate the source of the persistent tiny pocking on her shoulder, mo-o-m-m-y, mommy airplane. Standing next to her bed was her little angel Jasmine. Mommy, mommy wake up let’s go.

    Good morning, sweetie.

Sitting up in bed rubbing the remnants of sleep from puffy eyes she gets her first clear morning look at her daughter. TA- DAAA-A, mommy look, I did it all myself. The smile that covered Jasmine’s face was one of pride and hard won accomplishment. As she stood tall with little arms stretched wide to show off her mismatched, inside out horribly adorable outfit. Oh Baby what are you wearing?

Dymond smilingly asked, while examining this outrageous combination of purple tennis shoes, pink and white, pock-a-dot socks topped by inside out red shorts with her favorite neon orange and yellow rubber ducky top. Dymond tried hard not to laugh at her daughter’s strange wardrobe experiment. Since turning 3 years old last week her daughter has been eager to prove that she is a big girl and not a baby. Go the plane now mommy? Jasmine asked obviously excited. Looking over at the clock on the nightstand reality sunk in 7:20am Oh my God it’s Friday it can’t be this late.

Bolting out of bed Dymond grabbed her 3 year old daughter and ran into the hall.

First stop the Bathroom; she did the brush those sparkly jelly beans routine while brushing all twenty of her daughter’s little teeth and then her own. That’s one thing out of the way Jassie- let’s see what else we can do really fast.

    Yeah mommy let go fast.

Entering the kitchen she placed Jasmine into her high chair quickly removing the purple tennis shoes and pock-a-dot socks tucking one into each shoe, she dropped them in the corner on the floor. Jasmine squeals with laughter watching her mother spin and run around the kitchen. Got to hurry, got to hurry she sang out using her mommy voice. Pulling a small bowl from the cabinet, grabbing milk from the fridge she quickly poured milk into the pink princess bowl.

    Mommy, I want crunch-crunch cereal!

Sure baby, but you have to eat fast ok.

After quickly getting Jasmine ready and calling a cab, she settled her daughter in her room in a small tea-time chair with a book and put in the follow along cd. Burst into the bathroom, striping off her clinging pink pajamas – shorts and tank- top and jumped into the shower. Oh God I can’t miss this flight Dymond thought. The airport was 35minutes away and her flight was scheduled for 11:25am. After taking a quick shower, getting dressed and combing her hair fifteen minutes later Dymond grabbed their pre-packed suitcases as she and Jasmine ran out the door to the waiting cab.

Sitting on the plane thinking of her sweet Aunt Nina’s voice and how much she was going to miss her. It was almost unbelievable that someone so full of life and joy like Aunt Nina could be dead.

Dymond new that they were taking this flight for the worse reason, still she could help but feel joy at her daughter’s excitement and questions. Mommy, we are touching the sky? Can I have fluffy a cloud?

Oh baby mommy wishes she could give you the clouds, the sky and beyond but we can’t keep them; because the clouds and the sky belong to God. He just lets us use them so we can always have something pretty to look at.

Jasmine was so excited she barely took a breath between questions and enthusiastic commentary.

Mommy I have to go potty! Jasmine exclaimed as she bounced up and down in her seat.

When the Captain announced that they would be landing in 10 minutes Dymond took a deep breath to release some the building tension in her nerves.

Stepping off of the plane Dymond took in a whiff of that nostalgic Chicago air.

While dreading her reason for having to come home there was no place like it. She knew that one day she would have to come home sooner or later. If nothing else, Aunt Nina’s sudden death reaffirmed the point that life was fleeting. With that thought came cold hard truth; she and Jasmine were the last of her family and death often unkind in its choices could take her away from her baby girl and her daughter would end up alone, possibly a part of the system that Nina had saved her from.

She quickly sent up a prayer for strength, but most of all for forgiveness as they collected their luggage and exited the airport.

Jasmine was more than pleased with the sights seen during the lengthy shuttle ride to Aunt Nina’s home in the Chicago suburbs. The shuttle pulled up to the curb and the driver quickly helped them carry their bags to the gate, collected the fare and pulled away to continue on his schedule with the remaining passengers.

Dymond smiled ‘‘God, it’s good to see this place again."

Looking up at the stately old two story house with its picturesque windows and wrap around porch flanked by large white Italian marble pillars. Thinking of how Aunt Nina always kept an open door policy but the truth was Nina’s heart was more open that any door in this beautiful house.

Finally she was home; this had always been a house of healing. How strange that she had to return to same place where she first learned to confront the loss of loved ones, the place where she learned to live again. For the first time in almost four years she was back for the same reasons, mourning, loss, love, Death.

Dymond remembered the day that she came to live here.

It was two weeks after her thirteenth birthday; she was sitting at her desk in Mrs. Kowalski’s class at Lendinburg Middle School when Principal Kimble walked in and said Dymond Watson I looked up as she said please gather your belongings and come with me.

"Did I do something wrong I asked, Mrs. Kimble smiled and said no dare, not at all as we enter the main office everyone looks at me like I was rain falling on an outdoor wedding. We finally make it to the Principals office Mrs. Kimble closes that door and says have a seat Dymond your Aunt will be here shortly to explain everything to you."

"Aunt Nina! Hi" I said fifteen minutes later as she walked through the door.

I was so happy to see her. What are you doing here, am I spending the weekend at your house I asked. Aunt Nina smiled sweetly as she led me back to the chair I was sitting in and then sat down next to me. Something was wrong; I could tell something was bothering her and her eyes were watery and swollen.

"Dy she says softly as she reaches out to take hold of my hand sweetheart there’s been an accident…"

I look at her face waiting, hoping that she wouldn’t say it. But you’re ok I say hoping that that would be the end of it, but I knew-----I knew. Tears began to fall from Aunt Nina’s eyes as she looked at me. Oh baby I’m so sorry. Dy your mom and dad were driving home and,-- and their------- their car was hit by – Oh honey they didn’t make it she cried.

"What do you mean, they didn’t make it where are they?" voicing the question in a whisper.

"Where are mom and dad? I asked as the tears began to flow, falling so heavily, I felt they would never stop. Aunt Nina hugged me tightly whispering repeatedly as I cried. I’m so sorry baby. I’m sorry I know it hurts sweetheart."

All I could think of as we both cried, was that the two people I loved the most had left me. They left me I cried.

"Let’s go honey, I’ll take you home to get some clothes and then we’ll go to my house, ok sweetheart."

I was barely aware of the sympathetic glances we received as we walked past the staff and out the school doors. We’ll get through this together. Aunt Nina said as we walked down the steps to the car. Little did I know as we stood in the stifling heat that summer day at Hillcrest Cemetery numb with silent disbelief, watching as two finely honed caskets were lowered into the ground; how final this would be.

There would be no more see you later my life was forever changed and the home that I knew was no more.

That was the last day I saw my mom and dad, the last time I would attend Lendinburg Middle School and the day that Aunt Nina’ house became home.

    Chapter 2

Dymond watched as her daughter skipped along the stone covered walkway shadowed by neatly trimmed hedges that led to the front door.

Aunt Nina always did have a well maintained yard. Dymond smiled at the memory of the many days that Aunt Nina would spend outside in this yard almost hypnotized by her favorite yellow rose bush.

Mommy, we go inside now Jasmine called from her perch on the steps. I’m sleepy.

Oh, Jassie sweetheart mommy’s so sorry of course we can go inside.

Quickly unlocking and opening the door she stepped aside to guide Jasmine in ahead of her. It was just as she remembered it I can’t believe it’s been over three years.

Come on Jas let‘s go to mommy’s old bedroom you can sleep there.

Five minutes later Jasmine was sound asleep, tuckered out from jetlag and the sheer excitement of taking her first airplane ride.

Making her way back down stairs she fell into the fluffy loveseat in the living room, sat back and took a deep breath. For the first time since getting the call from Bruer Malwaski, Aunt Nina’s lawyer informing her that Nina had passed away, Dymond cried. The tears that fell weren’t only due to the fact that she would never hear Nina’s encouraging voice again or see her smile; these were also tears of guilt.

Dymond would now have to face every day knowing that because of her secrets and fears, her daughter would never get the chance to actually meet the most loving person she had ever known. As memories washed over her she could not hide from the one memory that had change her life forever. That memory had a name, Jason Moretti.

‘Jason’… The memory of the first time they met would always stay with her. She had just begun her freshman year at Roosevelt University where she planned to major in English Literature.

    It was a gloomy Chicago day, Dymond remember it like it was yesterday;

Outside of R.U. lined along the steps of the student affairs building was a small group of freshmen who had formed a circle to discuss their classes and professors. Though standing somewhat on the outskirts of that ring I couldn’t help the quite smile that popped out at some of the outrageous comments the students came up with. When I looked down to check my watch to gage how much time I had left before my next class I heard a voice that was slightly accented but oh so smooth asking Are you in a rush for our first date to end ? I looked up after expecting some other girl to answer such a bold question and was shocked to find the sexiest guy I had ever seen standing before me with eyes so dark I was momentarily hypnotized. .

His hair was midnight black and with deep curling wave, he was tall, over six feet and had a body that was magazine worthy. Tell me you’ve got at least five more minutes before your next class

I thought to myself Is he really talking to me? Oh God, I f he doesn’t stop smiling I’m going to drip into one big puddle right here on these steps. I’m sorry I say but I’m not the girl you’re looking for, we – ah - - don’t have a date maybe you’re looking for someone with the same outfit , I mean--- I don’t know you. This was not going right. I’m sorry but I have to go, maybe you’re not too late to find your date. I grabbed my bag and practically ran down the stairs. Wait a minute, hey wait up I feel strong fingers around my upper arm I’m sorry if I scared you. He said the words so sincerely… I don’t know why, the guy was a stranger to me but I wanted to reassure him that I was okay and he wasn’t to blame. Halting, I turn around to face this college fantasy man. You didn’t scare me. I’m fine. I just have a class to get to. I try to reclaim my arm with no success. The smile he gives me is sexy as hell but arrogantly annoying.

"Let’s not start this relationship with a lie" he says smugly.

Did he just say that? I think to myself. Excuse me - but Who the hell do you think you are? I tried again to free my arm; his grip loosened but he didn’t let go. There was that smile again if I weren’t so annoyed I’d be running from everything that smile suggested. I was sure the look on my face told him that I was not amused. Wait, I don’t care who you are all I know is I would like you to remove your hand from my arm.

He looked down at where his fingers connected with her as if he did not realized they were there Oh I apologize… I...ah a hint of color tinged his tanned cheeks as he released her arm and took a small step back. Look - - ah, can we start over he asked, so sincere I felt silly being upset. I just
