About this ebook

The most fearsome predators in history... are no longer history.

The Philippine Sea Plate: The most unexplored realm on the planet. Hidden beneath its primordial crust lies the remains of the Panthalassa, an ocean that dates back 220 million years. Vast and isolated, the Panthalassa is inhabited by nightmarish sea creatures long believed extinct.

Tanaka Institute, Monterey, CA: Four years have passed since Angel, the 76-foot, 100,000-pound Megalodon, birthed a litter of pups far too numerous and aggressive to keep in one pen. Fortunately, a Dubai royal prince who is building the largest aquarium in the world seeks to purchase two of the 'runts' – if Jonas Taylor's twenty-one-year-old son, David, will be their handler. Jonas reluctantly agrees, and David is off to Dubai for the summer of his life, not realizing that he is being set up to lead an expedition that will hunt down and capture the most dangerous creatures ever to inhabit the Earth.

And I thought JAWS was a frightening experience. This was book 4 in a series of MEG books about a huge prehistoric great white shark that made the JAWS shark look like a goldfish. From beginning to end this book was none stop action and suspense and had a body count that I stopped counting. I highly recommend this book to anyone that loved the JAWS movies or the movie The Deep Blue Sea. Awesome book!!

An eagerly awaited installment that pales in comparison to its predecessors. Three rich plot threads combine to form thin soup - all of them seemingly given short-shrift. There are a few illustrations scattered throughout the novel, but they only serve to highlight the many other things that could (should) have been illustrated as well. Not nearly as many people are eaten as before and the 'love interest' is cloying and annoying. Criticisms aside, if you have already invested the time in the first three books, go ahead and read this one.

About: The fourth book in the Meg series about Megalodons, giant prehistoric sharks that were thought to be extinct but are very much alive. The first discovered Meg now has grandbabies hanging out in Jonas Taylor's Sea World-esque aquarium. An accident occurs and some of the sharks are sent abroad to a new aquarium. Chaos ensues.Pros: I've read and enjoyed the other books in the Meg series as I like books about sea creatures like Jaws et al.Cons: I won't be reading the fifth book in the series. I thought this book was awful. Thinly developed characters. I didn't care what happened to any of them. Book felt about 100 pages too long and the story did not grab me. The love affair seems tacked on, unnecessary and is also poorly developed as it moves far too fast to foster any connection from the reader. Illustrations look like what you might see in a low-budget sci-fi film. Many editing mistakes: Page 23 of the hardcover features "yellin g", page 71 has the acronym "MLST" not in caps, a character seemingly turns Russian on page 179 "Did you ever have sleep with Sean Connery?" and on page 175, Newman from Seinfeld in spelled "Neuman".Grade: D-

I love to read junky summer adventure books while at the pool and this author's first two books met this criteria perfectly. This book however did not. It was way way way too long. And boring. And loaded with details, completely unneeded details. Also the descriptions and stereotyping of Dubai was grossly over the top.
I may need to check out another book from this author but this book just didn't work for me.

MEG: Hell's Aquariumby Steve AltenOne of my frivolous delights is a monstrous-type book to read at night like a late night B movie I use to watch as a kid! Popcorn and a monster book at night is so devilishly fun! A no-brainer, just lots of thrills and fascination! Especially if it's an extinct creature! This is perfect for that category! Lots of suspense, giant megalodon, and more giant creatures! Unpredictable and exciting! Great narration!
