Catharsis

CATHARSIS is a collection of four stories about characters facing what is holding them back and breaking through it.

We start with Kevin in "Requiescat". Fueled by alcohol, Kevin tries to lose himself in the gay club scene only to be pulled back to reality by running into his ex, Jason. Kevin, his liver soaked in vodka, finds himself lost in a nostalgic haze and considering how to properly deal with a problem like Jason.

From downtown at two in the morning to the suburbs at five in the afternoon we move on to "Last Words". Jamie Calvillo deals with her father’s infidelity by confronting him with evidence of the truth he’s been hiding all her life, but the truth is deeper than she thought and more than she can handle.

Just down the street, hours later, two boys find themselves in the back of an old Cadillac in "Kyle and David". For a few moments in the quiet night, encased in fogged over windows, David thinks over his relationship with the sleeping Kyle. He doesn’t believe that he deserves Kyle and he’s sure that Kyle would agree. Their just two teenage boys, and it’s just sex, right?

Finally, we shoot forward decades for "She Gave me my Name". Sammy, a synthetic human pet, is breaking down and Jess has to make the painful decision whether or not to prolong her friend’s life or let him go.

Logan Fuller is a novelist with a background in game development. Currently, he is earning his BFA in Creative Writing from Full Sail University. His flash fiction story “Kyle and David”, included in his collection of short stories Catharsis, was the first step to turning the voices in his head to characters living on the page.
