The next morning Morgan woke early he stumbled out of bed and walked down to the kitchen, where as he made fresh coffee Frado’s phone began to vibrate and dance around on the table. Seconds later it stopped and a text message icon appeared illuminated on the screen; he picked up the phone to decipher some Italian. It said meet us at one o’clock in Benitses. ‘I think I might just do that!’ Morgan said out loud before placing the phone in his cargo shorts next to his pistol. He turned and was startled by the appearance of Haley, who after her disturbed nights sleep had red bloodshot eyes.

‘I can’t get their faces out of my mind!’ she reached for the bottle of booze. Morgan quickly snatched it away. ‘There’ll be some fresh coffee ready soon. Go and get showered and put some of my clothes on!’ he picked her up from the seat she was slumped in. ‘Don't be too long, we have plenty to talk about!’

Some time later she joined him on the villas terrace overlooking the sea. It was secluded, and they were alone, the nearest people to them were far below sunbathing along the golden Glyfada beach. Haley sat near him overlooking the infinity pool taking centre stage to the exotic landscaped garden. She shuddered and turned to look at the rose garden where a raised mound of earth hid the horrors of her dreams. ‘Anyone would think we were on holiday.’ she relaxed and placed her hand on his shoulder.

He turned to study her eyes, but she quickly concealed them with her sunglasses. ‘You feeling a little sensitive this morning?’ he asked.

‘Aren’t you?’ Using her hand she turned his face toward her, and for the first time saw the dark residue of bruises on his face. One eye was bloodshot in the corner. ‘You make me feel a lot better about my appearance!’ she laughed a little crazily. ‘They’re only bruises and will heal quickly enough!’ True he thought, but wondered if she had been left scared by what she had seen.

They sat and ate croissants and drank strong Italian coffee, then she returned to hang out their washing to dry. Her dress could be saved only because of the nature of its colour. Red was the colour of danger and now murder. Last night she had seen a difference in Morgan’s personality. He could only focus on evil to get revenge, and it frightened her. She realised she was expendable after all he had used her as bait and put her in danger, but she also realised that she was now part of his world, and his assistant without her none of this would have been achievable. She was as guilty as he, and should get used to the idea for her own sanity.

Once her duties were done she returned poolside and faced him in a more confident frame of mind. ‘What do you need to know?’

Everything about the mafia left on the island!’ his passion for revenge had been ignited once again.

She steadied herself and sighed, she knew that this information would result in many deaths. But all the same briefed him on his targets. ‘To my knowledge there are only ten mafia left on the island, the rest are back at the side of Franco plying their licences in death.’
