The Light

About this ebook
„The Light” is a medical, science-fiction thriller. The main characters go through traumatic, medical experiences, of which the peculiar, common denominator seems to be the presence of extraordinary powers and energies. The characters are the branded, chosen ones. The explanation of that might be extremely shocking for the orthodox believers of all religion as well as atheists.
Why are the characters no longer interested in all of this? Where are they now?

Aunt Wanda had a constant cough. She may have got a cold. Or perhaps it's because of smoking? No, turns out it's not. And now Jan got sick. He's four years old and lately a number of weird-looking balls have grown under his arms and on his groins. This is a very serious disease. It's deadly, but he's unaware of it. He only saw the worried looks of his parents. And now his aunt and uncle are driving him to yet another hospital.
- Will there be injections again? I'm scared! I don't want a needle! Leave me alone already! -Jan tearfully pleaded.
A gate, a small building, a huge hall filled with little children. Could this be a hospital? Looks like an ordinary house... but there seem to be too many children and those ladies in white aprons definitely don't look like aunts. He is now sitting on the carpet and the ladies are walking around him. Children are playing in the other side of the room. A lady named Kasia is holding a spoonful of some disgusting mash.
- She won't make me eat! I'll clench my teeth! - Jan thought.
Kasia is pulling his arm as he's trying to break free. A different lady grabs his other arm. The little boy screams and pees into his pants. He slowly collapses and all he can see are dark and bright circles. The voices around him begin to fade and soon he's not able see or hear anything. He inertly sinks to the soft carpet.
- Leave him alone! - the head nurse shouted extremely loudly.
- Stupid women, can't you see he's in hysteria and you're only making things worse? Oh, he fainted...- She said to herself and quickly brought the boy round, patting him on his cheeks.
Finally someone showed him mercy. Soon, he grabs the head nurse's hand with both his hands and a but shakily walks with her outside, to the playground. The surroundings are wonderfully green. Jan stops shaking. The head nurse takes off his tights, cleans and changes his pants. In a moment, the boy sits on a bench and his sobbing fades to just a silent cry.
- I want to go home. I want my mummy and daddy...
-You can't go home yet, you're sick. But your mom will come to visit you in a few days. And now I'm going to show you an interesting place where no on will chase you with a spoon.
- What is that place Is it far from here?
- No, it's close. The old man who works there will show you some huge plants.
And that's how Jan found himself in a huge, glazed building filled with flowers, bushes and even small trees. This place reminded him of the tales told to him by his mom, aunt and granny. There are fruits hanging from some bushes, which he has never seen before. Piotr, an elderly man who takes care of the greenhouse managed to grow lemons, oranges and tomatoes here.
- Here, have a taste of orange. It won't harm you. - said Piotr, peeling the freshly grown fruit.
Jan grabbed the moon-shaped piece of orange with a bit of mistrust. His mouth filled up with sweetness.
From that moment on, Jan visited the greenhouse or its surroundings everyday for a few hours. He liked running around the hedges. He doesn't need any other place or other children now. He's happy now, though his parents are far away. They will come visit him someday... Their faces are fading in his memory. He was living in the now, remembering only the morning and sometimes the previous day. He lost track of time. Dates are for adults to remember.
And suddenly the day has arrived, when he was being dressed by two ladies for his trip home. Clean and dressed in his best clothes, he is now waiting by the gate. A gray car appears, back door opens and here comes...mum! She's wearing a short raincoat. She's running! She takes him in her arms and lifts him up. They're twirling and crying happy tears. Why so? They should be laughing!
- Mummy, I hear ringing in my ears!
-It's nothing, Honey, it's because of emotions. We'll go see a doctor, just in case.
- Oh no, no doctor! It's not ringing anymore. Let's go home, to daddy!

It's a warm and sunny day, somewhere around the equator. After a long journey, an unusual aircraft lands slowly and silently on a wide glade, nearby a great, blue lake, on the foot of a volcano. It looks like a bell or a very rambling cone. The passengers of the ship are going to see how the blue planet has changed after a severe catastrophe which occurred here 70 million years ago. They were observing it from distance with a great delay of 30 million years.
The hatch opened. Because of the recent thunderstorm, the air was fresh, clean and filled with ozone. The passengers observe an intensively green area. They can hear the humming of the waterfall, whose transparent waters flow into the blue lake. They see lions resting on the glade under a tree, by a dead antelope. Some puzzled monkeys are running around, by the tropical forest, trying to scare the weird visitors away.
- Good atmosphere. Lots of oxygen and nitrogen. We can breathe without apparatuses. - the commander said. - The Seventh told us to relax here for a while and leave in about a 100 years. My plan is to briefly examine the area and then establish constant monitoring.
- Alright then, let's get to work. We'll take a healthy walk and after a meal we can start spreading the cameras. A 100 years is rather a short period of time.
- Let's choose the smartest animal and we'll vaccinate it. This will accelerate all of our work on this planet. - the geneticist added.

It wasn't supposed to be a big deal, just a simple sore-throat examination. But suddenly, the doctor with a shiny plate on his forehead slot a long and cold device into the throat, the nurse held the head from behind,
