Unsettled, agitated, but unable to pinpoint exactly what her problem stemmed from, Helen was looking for something, but didn’t know exactly what. Over the last few months she’d had problems sleeping, tossing and turning, oftentimes getting up, wandering through the big, old empty house. These days her mind seemed to wander to the what-ifs of her life. Up at six, in the office by eight. Putting out fires nine to five. Dinner parties, thank you notes, packages send off to the kids. Every day, the same thing, the same expectations, the same responsibilities. Helen leaned back in her office chair and browsed through the Las Vegas newspaper. Closing, then folding the newspaper, Helen set her fantasies aside. Real life demanded her attention. Too much to do, Margaret. This isn’t a good time for me to take a trip.

Margaret straightened, hands planted on her generous hips. So, when? The kids are on their own, it’s summer, and things are as quiet as they’re ever going to get. Helen made a face. Todd and Arthur were great as escorts to the various social functions in the county when she needed a date. But there was certainly no passion there.
