About this ebook

Mrs Pargeter discovers the skills by which Public Relations can make evil look good in the latest wickedly entertaining mystery.

It is her characteristic generosity rather than her love of animals that finds Mrs Pargeter supporting her friend, Jasmine Angold, at a charity reception for PhiliPussies, whose worthy aim is to rehabilitate stray cats from the Greek island of Atmos into caring English homes. But the evening is to have unexpected consequences. At the event, Mrs P is taken aback to meet a woman who claims to be the sister of her late husband, the much-missed Mr Pargeter.

This surprising encounter leads to unwelcome digging into past secrets, the discovery of a body in Epping Forest, an eventful trip to Greece - and unexpected danger for Mrs Pargeter. In the course of her investigations, she learns the true nature of charity and the dubious skills by which Public Relations can make evil look good.

Melita Pargeter is not fond of felines. Nevertheless, she is cajoled into attending a benefit for a British charity that rescues stray and feral cats in Greece and transports them to England for adoption. At the fundraiser, she meets for the first time, her late husband’s sister. Mrs. P never knew Lionel (Mr. Pargeter) HAD a sister. There are lot of things Mrs. Pargeter doesn’t know (or chooses not to know) about her husband, including exactly what his business involved. Readers can figure it out pretty quickly. Soon after the event, one of the volunteers Mrs. Pargeter met there is murdered. And our heroine makes it her business to figure out for herself who the murderer is. She has vast resources – people who were associates of her late husband – all contained in a little black book her husband left her. (Because of how well Mr. Pargeter treated them while alive, they are inclined to do everything they can to help his widow.) To further complicate things, the little black book goes missing and there's only one person who could have removed it from the safe: one of Mr Pargeter's enemies. But, certainly, he's dead. Or is he?This is a delightful series, begun in the mid-1980s and resurrected just recently. Mrs. Pargeter is delightful and from page one readers know she will tidy up all the loose ends by the last page – and in her own inimitable way. Fun from start to finish!

While supporting her friend in her bereavement Mrs Pargeter invites, Jasmine Angold to a charity reception for PhiliPussies. A charity which rehouses cats from the Greek Island of Atmos back to England. But at the event she meets her previously unknown sister-in-law, which is followed by a death, results in a lot of potential revealing of secrets.
An enjoyable cosy crime mystery which re-introduced me to the tales of Mrs Pargeter.
