About this ebook

After a bad car accident, Jory's lover Peter assures him he's doing fine. But when Jory attends a get-well party at the house of a coworker, he's surprised when no one asks him how Peter is doing. More disconcerting, Peter's gold cross necklace is missing, and Jory suffers from headaches whenever his best friend Bruce brings up the accident.

Where is the cross? And why does Bruce keep asking Jory to remember what happened to his lover?

Are you sure you’re up for this? Bruce asks as he pulls into Janice’s driveway.

Jory Murphy rolls down the passenger side window to hear last night’s sudden snow crunch beneath the tires. Cold air stings his eyes and burns his face as it curls into the car. He can do this.

Behind the wheel of the late model Tacoma pickup, his friend Bruce Smithson eases to a stop. Jory? he asks, concern edging his rough voice. He yanks on the handbrake and puts the car into neutral. Are you okay?

    Fine, Jory replies.

He is fine. It’s been a week since the accident, and even though his hip hurts from the cold, giving him a slight limp in the evenings, he’s doing okay. The doctors think a few more sessions with his physical therapist should loosen up his muscles a bit, but they caution against dancing or sports for another month or so. Jory’s glad the wreck happened in the winter—he isn’t really into skiing all that much, to be honest, and he can avoid the slopes at Wintergreen for a season if it means he’ll be able to hit the waves next summer as if nothing happened.

    The wreck…
