LaMonte Johnson

LaMonte Johnson is new to the novel writing world, but I'm learning fast.A little about my self. As a person I like to think of myself as confident but, a very humble man. I understand that there’s a time to give and be loving and understanding. I also believe in standing up for what I believe and not being walked on. I’m always there for my friends and loved ones. I don’t run from adversity. I care what people think of me because I believe in being the best man I can be. I want people who come across me to think “hey what a cool guy”. It’s not about attention for me. It’s about the importance of ones own honor and respect for those around him.

    CHAPTER ONE

Ladies and gentlemen, the captain has illuminated the seat belt sign. Please return to your seats, fasten your seat belts and make sure your seat back is in the upright and locked position as we begin our final descent into Seattle, came the flight attendant's voice over the loudspeaker.

Michelle Stevenson took a deep breath and tried, for the hundredth time today, to calm her shattered nerves. She had finally done it. She had left her abusive husband Brady and was headed to Seattle to start a new life with the help of her old friend, Clay Keaton. She had known Clay and his sisters, Elizabeth and Carla since they were all kids growing up in the same neighborhood in Maine. The Keaton kids were her constant companions then. She had idolized his older sisters and Clay had been her best friend all through high school and the early part of college, when she'd met Brady Stevenson. Brady hadn't approved of her close relationship with Clay, so to make Brady happy, she'd slowly cut him out of her life. She wished she would have known that Brady had already begun his abuse by isolating her from her friends. It had only gotten worse. A lot worse.

It had been a fluke that she'd run into Clay's sister, Carla, at a Starbucks in Manhattan a little over three months ago. She'd been there with Brady while he attended a conference. She usually only saw Carla at Christmas when she returned to Maine to visit her family. Carla had known immediately that there was something very wrong with Michelle. She seemed nervous and had winced in pain when Carla hugged her. After some gentle prodding, Michelle told Carla that Brady had been emotionally and physically abusing her since shortly after they had gotten married. Soon, Carla and Michelle were meeting regularly, planning Michelle's escape. Carla had enlisted the assistance of her brother who was now working on a crab-fishing boat in Alaska and living in Seattle in the off-season.

Upon hearing that Michelle was in trouble, he had immediately insisted that she move into his guest room while she started divorce proceedings, found a job, and figured out what she wanted to do with the rest of her life.

Reluctantly, Michelle had agreed. She wasn't close to Clay anymore. Brady had made sure of that. Michelle shuddered as she remembered a particularly vicious beating Brady had delivered shortly after they were married. Her crime? Hugging Clay at a Christmas party at the Keaton home in Maine. The attack had left her with four broken ribs, a sprained wrist, and more bruises than she could count. After that, she had been very careful never to speak to or touch Clay again. Michelle had felt terrible blowing off her friend, but it was an act of self preservation. She often wondered if Clay hated her for cutting him off like she had. As she gathered her purse
