A NAVY SEAL TO PROTECT THE PIANIST

    Prologue

He smiled at his victim when she dropped dead to the ground. He had done it again and nobody would never know...

The plush and sophisticated Kendall Avenue was rudely awakened in the early hours of the morning with police car sirens blaring as they raced down the road toward the alley at the end of the road. Lucy Mc Adams had had a late night at her last piano recital at the Hall of Music and she sat up in bed rubbing her eyes and trying to adjust to the glow of the night lamp. What on earth is all this noise about, said Lucy to herself as she threw back the coverlet and got out of bed. Padding barefoot to the window she drew the curtains and was shocked to see police cars parked on either side of the road, as policemen ran toward the alley.

Kendall Avenue had never been disturbed like this in the early hours of the morning and Lucy knew that something serious must have happened. She three on her overcoat and opened the door of her apartment. Mr. and Mrs. Spencer, Lucy’s immediate neighbours were already outside in the corridor of their apartment complex talking to the other residents.

What has happened? asked Lucy coming over to the little group. There’s been a case of homicide and the body of a woman was found dumped in the alley, said Mr. Spencer.  Lucy’s hand flew to her mouth. Oh dear me, when could this have happened? asked Lucy. According to Mc Gregor, the local police sergeant the killing could have happened anytime between nine and ten last night, said Mr. Spencer. Lucy’s eyes grew wide. But I passed the alley on my way after a late night performance around that time, said Lucy. Mrs. Spencer looked at Lucy and she saw concern written all over the old lady’s face. Lucy I think you should take more care of yourself, dear, said Mrs. Spencer.  Everyone else nodded.

Lucy nodded and walked back to her apartment. As she closed the door behind her, she jumped when her mobile started ringing. Lucy how are you darling? asked her father. Oh Dad did you hear the news so soon? asked Lucy. Yes I did and your Mom and I were very worried as the news mentioned Kendall Avenue Alley, said Dallas Mc Adam. Lucy nodded. You need to be more careful Lucy, said her father. The spoke for a while and then Dallas Mc Adams hung up.

Lucy walked to the television and switched it on. The face of the lady which appeared on the screen made Lucy take about three steps back. Oh dear isn’t that Mrs. Darlington who lives at Watermark Apartments? she said to herself as she groped the sofa for support. It was Mrs. Darlington who had been murdered and left in the alley, she said softly to herself her who body shaking in fear.

What of security in Kendall Avenue now? Thought Lucy as her mind raced to the many nights she had driven alone after musical performances. Shuddering she switched off the television and walked into the kitchen to prepare a strong cup of tea.

    Chapter 1

Lucy Mc Adams finished piano practice at School of Music. She was tired as she slipped her music notes into her briefcase. Lucy was an accomplished pianist and regularly performed at the Hall of Music in Boston. But she always loved to come to the School of Music for practice. It was here that she learnt the ABCs of music and she felt that she owed it to the school to at least practice there.

Lucy lived in an apartment at Watermark Kendall Square. She had left New York to follow her dream in music, much to the chagrin of her millionaire father Dallas Mc Adams and mother Nancy Mc Adams.  At twenty-two years, Lucy was a pretty blond with curves in the right places which projected her beautiful figure any man would stop to take a second look. Are you finished Lucy, asked Valerie as she put her head around the door. Yes Val I am about to leave, said Lucy, picking up her briefcase.

The car park was bare except for about three cars including Lucy’s BMW. See you, Ralph, said Lucy to the doorman as she walked out into the car park. Some of the lights in the car park were not functioning and Lucy made a mental note to let the administration of the School of Music know about it the following day. She threw her briefcase into the rear and got in the driving seat. Lucy felt a bit uneasy as it was late and she had never left the school so late. Gunning the BMW Lucy drove out of the car park and headed home. She decided not to stop anywhere. There was plenty of food in the freezer. She would make do with that tonight. She needed a quiet and peaceful night as she had a performance the following night at the Hall of Music.  Lucy was told that most of the tickets had been sold out and that she should expect to see a mammoth crowd at her performance.

She switched on the radio and listened to the news. "Nothing fascinating," said Lucy to herself as she switched off the radio and turned into the underground car park of Watermark Apartments. Lucy took the elevator from the car park straight to her apartment. She did this when she was very tired.

The following morning Lucy opened her wardrobe and took out a beautiful turquoise silk evening gown with rhinestone straps and a rhinestone bodice. She always dressed impeccably for performances and was intrigued how the young girls in the audience would follow her style of dress. Lucy heard her mobile ring and walked to the dresser where she had it on the charger.  The call was from her father. Hello Dad, said Lucy.  Hello Lucy, I called to see how you are, said Dallas Mc Adams. I am alright Dad. How are you and Mom doing? We are alright. Your Mom was not feeling too well yesterday as she was coming down with a terrible chest cold. The weather is awful here. Oh I am sorry Dad, is Mom around? she asked. Yes here she is, said Dallas as Nancy came online. Hello, Mom. Hello darling, said Nancy. Mom you don’t sound well at all. Did you see Dr. Jacobs? asked Lucy with concern as she felt guilty not being around her parents. Yes, darling. So are there any performances these days? asked Nancy. Yeah, Mom I have one tomorrow tonight at the Hall of Music. We are expecting a mammoth crowd as all tickets have been sold out, said Lucy enthusiastically. That is nice darling, but you need to come home too you know, said Nancy. I will Mom. I will try to make it this weekend, said Lucy. Alright darling let me know if you are coming, said Nancy. Take care Mom. I will call you on Thursday, said Lucy as she hung up.

Her brother Lance was away in the US Army and seldom came home.  Lucy knew her parents were lonely however much money they had. "I should go to New York this weekend," said Lucy to herself.

Lucy did not leave her apartment the whole of the day. This was what she usually did when she had a performance in the evening. She would stay in and draw up her schedule of music and prepare for the performance. At five in the evening, Lucy took a bath and began
