    The night was a crisp 42 degrees. As Robert and Jim prepared for their investigation, the witching hour neared. The first cold front of the season had blown through earlier in the day. With the wind chill, it felt as if it was in the mid-30s. The distinct smell of cold was in the air, a rarity in South Texas.

    Robert took a deep breath, rushing the chilled air through his lungs. He looked up at the starless night sky and enjoyed the cold on his face. The moon was full, but it was obscured by high cirrus clouds. Moonlight attempted to penetrate through the clouds’ curly tresses, giving the moon an ominous glow.
