    When she was a little girl, Bridget Allan Pearce was, what-used-to-be called, a tomboy. When the girls in her neighborhood played dolls and had tea parties for their friends and stuffed animals, Bridgette played touch football and cops and robbers with the boys.

    She grew up on Ewa Beach Road right on the beach, just southwest of the Pearl Harbor Naval Base on the Island of Oahu. Her stepdad had a good job right on the base at the World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument. Her mom was – what they called then - a homemaker. She was a stay-at-home mom. Her job was to take care of Bridgette and her two older brothers.

    Bridgette went to elementary school right up the road in Pearl City. She did so well that the Principal brought her to the attention of the Director of the Priory Upper School at St. Andrew’s Priory School for Girls in Honolulu. The Priory, as it was called, was founded by Queen Emma, the wife of King Kamehameha IV, with the help of the Archbishop of Canterbury, in 1867. The Priory was the best, and most exclusive, school in Hawaii. Bridgette got a scholarship to The Priory where she played soccer, tennis, and was on the swimming team. Bridgette also surfed and got up to the north coast whenever she could, where the monster 40-foot waves were. She was a straight-A student in science and got As and B+s in her other courses. At the end of her junior year she was invited to take an AP summer course in geology at the University of Hawaii.

    The teacher for the summer course was a young gentleman named Jeremy Mahikane, who was a Professor of Geology. As a treat for his students, Jeremy took them on a snorkeling trip to Hanauma Bay. As soon as Bridgette saw the Bay, she became a geologist, or to be precise, a
