About this ebook

Killian knew his mate was out there. Being celibate in hopes he'll find his female hasn't been a hardship, but he's growing impatient.

And then he sees her. She's human, gorgeous, and will be his. He doesn't even know her name, but her smell is sugary and tells his possessive inner bear she's supposed to be his in all ways.

Alice planned a weekend of relaxation, but instead, she found herself mated to a bear shifter. Alice doesn't fight the attraction she has for Killian, not when she wants to be between the sheets with him in the worst possible way. Alice is single one day and mated to a growly bear shifter the next, but can it last forever?

    Chapter One

    Alice

At twenty-eight years old I was the first one to admit my life was not how I envisioned it.

I was stuck on this monotonous, boring turntable, and I needed to get off it.

There was something that hummed deep within me, a slow burn that was just waiting for that right accelerant to ignite it. I didn’t know if it was just my life trying to tell me I needed a different scene, or if I hadn’t found the right man to give me that extra kick in my step. I wanted something wild and uninhibited, something that had me gasping for air. I guess it really wasn’t something I wanted, but someone who could unleash those feelings inside of me.

What I did know was I had to do something or I’d get stuck deeper in this rut.

That’s why I was getting away from the routine I lived, at least for the weekend. It was a start. Taking a two-day trip to a mountain retreat, a little village nestled in the Rocky Mountains, filled with shifters, might do me some good.

I might be surrounded by shifters, but I hadn’t even been with one, and I hoped one day that would change.

Just thinking of all that growly, primal aura that I knew surrounded them gave me the chills. I’d heard enough through the grapevine to know shifters were notorious lovers, that they took with ferociousness. They left bite marks, bruises from how passionate they were.

    I wanted that.

Pushing my wild thoughts aside, I focused on getting through this Friday workday. Doing secretarial work at a law firm was as mundane as it came.

I set my purse on my desk once I entered the law office. Everything was still and quiet. I looked down at the papers neatly stacked in the corner, at the computer beside those. My desk was made to look like oak, but actually it was just pressed wood. That’s pretty much how everything was at Hawthorn Law—made to look expensive, but it was really just crap.

And then there was my boss. He was a pompous ass, the kind of guy that got women only because he drove a BMW and had a set of porcelain veneers. He wouldn’t be that bad looking if his foul attitude didn’t overshadow everything else. I’d quit if I didn’t need the job, but in a small town like Crestview, you took what you could get.

My routine at work was pretty much the same as the rest of my life … predictable.

I went about the task of opening the office for the day. I made sure to finish a full cup of coffee before my boss came in, because I knew I was going to need it to deal with his arrogant ass.

Once the bitch work was finished—which let’s be honest, that’s exactly what it was—I sat behind my desk and powered on my computer.

I saw the glare of sun hitting Mr. Hawthorn’s shiny new BMW, and turned my head to watch him pull into the parking spot right in front of the office. When he climbed out, adjusted his tie, and grabbed his
