About this ebook

This First French Reader has been designed for a dynamic first reading experience in French. The book is divided into eighteen reading sections, each one with quickly accessible vocabulary lists and exercises. The answers for each exercise are readily available from the exercise page.
Every word and expression in the reading sections is covered in the vocabulary lists. No need for a dictionary! Because the words and expressions in the vocabulary lists are presented in the order in which they occur in the text, difficult sentences are more easily understood. Idiomatic expressions are broken down into their individual parts and then fully translated for a clear understanding of the text.
With eighteen reading sections, twenty-five vocabulary lists, eighteen exercises with complete answer keys, this First French Reader will make reading French a more enjoyable experience.

    INTRODUCTION

This First French Reader is divided into four categories: Reading, Vocabulary, Exercises, and Answers.

    READING

Each reading section begins with an illustration, followed by the text. You can quickly go to any reading section in this reader by clicking (or tapping) the Reading Menu link in the Table of Contents. Clicking on the Reading Menu link will display the titles of the reading sections. Once there, simply click on a section's title to display that section on your screen.

Each reading section ends with three links. The first link takes you to the vocabulary page for that section. The second link goes to the exercise for that section, while the third link takes you back to the Reading Menu.

    VOCABULARY

You can access the vocabulary list of a reading section by clicking on the Vocabulary link just below the last line of text. You can also ignore the link and keep on reading.

Some reading sections include more new vocabulary than others. Those reading sections have two or more vocabulary lists. In the section titled Mr. et Mme Lemonier, for example, there are two vocabulary links, vocabulary-1 and vocabulary-2. Each vocabulary link is located directly beneath the text section to which it refers.

When you are browsing through a vocabulary list in the Reader, the Return links for that list will always take you back to the beginning of the text to which it refers. For example, if you are reading the second vocabulary list in the Mr. et Mme Lemonier section, clicking one of the Return links will take you back to the beginning of the second part of the reading section, and not to the top of the whole section.

The words and expressions in each vocabulary list are presented in the same order in which they occur in the text, and not alphabetically. The sequential order of words in a vocabulary list makes it easy to find words that are related in the text. Some expressions, for example, are first broken down into their individual parts, word for word, then the whole expression is translated.

When you are done reading a vocabulary list, just click on one of the Return links to go back to your current reading section. The Return links are located both at the top and bottom of every vocabulary list. Following the links within the reader will provide a more consistent way of navigating throughout the entire book, while giving you fast access to its different parts.

Once you have reached the end of a vocabulary list, you may either click the Return link to go back to the text, or you may simply go on to the next page and start reading the next vocabulary section. Remember that, when you click on a Return link in a vocabulary list, it will take you to the reading section associated with that list only. For example, if you click on the Vocabulary link in the first reading section and continue reading through the vocabulary lists until you reach the fifth list, clicking on a Return link in that fifth list will take you to the fifth reading section, and not to the first one.
