DEDICATION
Bound by love and anchored to the past, we are never free from the love that shaped our hearts in our youth. It becomes the cornerstone, the benchmark, for all that follow—be they many or few.
It is in the past that our love is rooted.
It is in the present that it flourishes.
And it is in our future that it blossoms
To burn with passion.
To live again.

The Kiss
Part I
Mick boarded the plane with eager thoughts of seeing Tanya again in his aging head. But, as soon as he sat down, he was eighteen again, palms slightly wet and stomach turning nervous loops. He and Tanya had been just teens walking down the street together flirting. On their way to neck, as they often did at the model homes in their neighborhood, if they could only get by the policing eyes of the real estate agent. As clearly as if it were yesterday he remembered the feeling of putting his young arm around her shoulders in anticipation of the kisses that would be forthcoming. Oh, he had been nervous, but covered it well with his playful confidence. They had avoided the on-site real estate agent by quickly passing up the first house and going straight to the two-story colonial. They had hurried up the stairs to the master suite and waited for a few moments to see if they had been discovered. As always, before them was the wonderful round bed. It had suited their eager teenaged passion. They had fallen onto the bed in an embrace and had kissed as though each other’s lips were food and they had not eaten in days. It was a forty-year-old memory now, but it may just as well have happened yesterday. The fantasy was real and the memory was raw and palpable; at least that’s how it felt to Mick. And now she was only just a plane flight away.
Mick was happy to have a window seat. It would give him privacy to think about Tanya as he gazed out over the clouds. As he sat in the compressed space, he began to wonder if she would still see him, at sixty, the same as she had seen him in high school.
She had come in as a new transfer student in her junior year, and she had been nervous about meeting new people, making the right impressions, and having the right reputation. He wanted her the minute he met her the summer before classes started...she lived right down the street from him. She must have known he had it hard for her. She was nervous around him and all they ever did was neck. His thoughts drifted to how she had changed, if she had changed...
He was the same build, but his hair was now
