About this ebook

Cautiously, he crawled in the opening, and instantly, he could see nothing. Fumbling in his possible bag he found a lucifer and struck it on the rocky ceiling above his head .... without warning he heard a blood curdling roar, felt a sharp pain start at his head and go all the way down his left side. A pool of blackness started coming over him, he tried to hang on but he felt himself slipping away ... and then nothing.

A Gift for Dusty - Glen Guy

    Prologue

    By Glen Guy

Just around the corner, about a century ago, There walked a transplanted cowboy named Dusty Sourdough

He came to the great north, with mountains majesty.

He came to Alaska to fulfill his destiny

The Old West was changing fast

And Dusty knew his way of life couldn’t last

So, with mind made up and his things in his pack

He started north, and would never look back

The many things he would soon gaze upon

From the mighty grizzly to the Sitka fawn

Oh the beauty and the wonders he will see

Along his northern journey, to fulfill his destiny

Here in the vastness of this majestic land

Where everywhere you looked was the touch of God’s hand

Here at last he could truly be free

    Living all of life’s adventures,

    on his trail to destiny!

    CHAPTER 1

Dusty, a cowboy turned mountain man, knew he was in trouble, even though he was a greenhorn or a Cheechako, as the Sourdoughs called him, up here in this beautiful but dangerous land called Alaska.

The hours of daylight in the winter are few and Dusty noticed this day was even seeming shorter than usual. The dark, steel gray sky to the north, was getting darker by the moment and his instincts told him, he had better find shelter, and find it fast.

Up ahead, just beyond a crystal clear, but fast moving stream, Dusty could make out a hollow in the rocky face above the stream bank…now you have to know, a stream to an Alaskan, looks like a raging river to most Cheechakos, and Dusty wasn’t any different than any other newcomer to this vast wilderness.

The closer he got to the stream the more worried he became. His attention on his problem looming before him, in the fading cold grey light, had him so bewildered, he didn’t even notice the snow beginning to fall. If a man were to fall into that fast moving, ice cold water, odds of surviving wasn’t in his favor, he said to himself.

About this time, Dusty finally noticed the white stuff coming down at an alarming
