REQUIEM
FOR
MAO
a bi-cultural look at the fall of Mao from his Chinese Mount Rushmore to a mere historical foot note

The reader needs to understand that the writer is firstly and lastly a reporter who also views this report as a way stop in a learning process. Hopefully all
questions that are answered will see at least two more questions posed by that answer. So don’t look for an academic poly syllabic answer when a
simple, direct response will do, as this is written for the ear, not the eye, in straight forward vernacular English, not aimed at an academic audience but at
the dirty fingernail set.
JUNE 4th 1989
The first goal is to explore the long range impact of the June 4, 1989 Chinese riots in Beijing and what, if any, impact Christianity in China had on
such matters.
A FRAME OF REFERENCE FOR THE READER
In order for the reader to understand this writer it’s imperative to know where the writer comes from. I started college at age 23 and took five years to
finish, (solvent!) hence when I wound up in 1970 reporting for a radio station in a small city dominated by a Land Grant University that had just been, by
legislative fiat, mandated to accept liberal arts students rather than just gear heads and and plow boys, which created all sorts of administrative problems
for the school and associated law enforcement agencies.
This distinct difference in maturity of affixed different barnacles on my intellectual ship of state that viewed the kids and cops much differently than most
greenhorn reporters.
As luck would have it, the week after school started in September the Nixon administration started the so-called Cambodian Incursion
, which
meant invading neutral Cambodia to chase escaping North Vietnamese.
This led to the genocidal regime of Pol Pot causing the deaths of one to three million Cambodians of a population of slightly over eight million,
amounting to some 25% of the population.
If Richard Nixon deserved impeachment this certainly qualified as a high crime.
There seems to be a lesion in the frontal lobes of Marxists that says that if something is rural it’s purer than the wind driven snow.
