About this ebook

Kasie West meets Morgan Matson in this hilarious and heartwarming debut about a girl’s summer mission to get over her ex-boyfriend by kissing her way through the alphabet.

Getting dumped by her boyfriend is not how Veda planned on starting her summer. When Mark makes it clear that it’s over between them, Veda is heartbroken and humiliated—but, more importantly, she’s inspired. So she sets out on the love quest of a lifetime: use the summer to forget about Mark, to move on, and move up. All she has to do is kiss twenty-six boys with twenty-six different names—one for each letter of the alphabet.

From the top of the Ferris wheel at her hometown carnival to the sandy dunes of Lake Michigan, Veda takes every opportunity she can to add kisses (and boys) to her list, and soon the break-up doesn’t sting quite as much. But just when Veda thinks she has the whole kissing thing figured out, she meets someone who turns her world upside down.

2.5 StarsIn 26 Kisses Veda's friend Mel challenges her to kiss her way through a hoard of boys by using the alphabet as an attempt to get her over her recent heartbreak. It sort of takes the idea of a rebound guy to a new level, but most of the kisses stay pretty chaste. I think readers younger than myself may enjoy this more, but while the writing was good, I was not a huge fan of the story overall. I think the main issue was my lack of connection to any of the characters. We've all faced breakups and heartbreaks and many times they do cause us to step out of our box and do something uncharacteristically (as is the case with Veda's 26 kisses challenge). And while it does help her focus on something else and eventually move on, it seems to become a bit of an unhealthy obsession. I didn't get her drive to keep on doing it when at first she doesn't even want to and then later, after realizing it has accomplished its goal and it is no longer fun, she acts like it's a requirement to finish. While Veda does show some character development and growth, I felt, aside from Killian, the rest of the characters could have been flushed out some more. For instance, Mel comes across as a commitment-phobe, a detail that is important to her story as well as Veda's (she is after all the one who came up with and convinced Veda to do the challenge), yet we are never given a reason why she is this way. Is it just because she's young and reckless or is there a deeper underlying reason behind it?As for Killian, the quasi-love interest: I enjoyed his uniqueness and his openness. He comes from a neighboring town where he doesn't necessarily fit in, and scenes with him were always fun to read. He had a distinct personality. I didn't quite feel the connection between him and Veda, but maybe that is in part due to the fact that she is so against beginning another relationship. The ending wraps everything up in a nice bow that even had me smiling as it was cute and went well with the overall light, fluffy feeling of the book. True there are some difficulties in Veda's journey, but I think as a whole, 26 Kisses is a fun read coming out just in time for Summer (May 24th).With all this being said, Michels is a talented writer who I wouldn't mind reading again.

I read this one pretty quickly. I was cute and fast paced. I like the main characters quite a bit, especially Killian. I wish we had gotten more background info on him though. I didn't really see the point in her continuing with the 26 Kisses after a certain point. It just started to seem really juvenile and like she had already learned what she needed to from it, however if she had stopped I guess that wouldn't have been as good of a story either. Fun, light and quick read!
