    Epic Tales - Tygo Lee

    deeds)

    Prologue

Nobody knew exactly when he was born or how old he really was, but since anyone could remember, Benny the Bold had been the sacred caretaker of these mystical lands. With sword and shield gripped firmly in his paws, he had come forth for generation upon generation without hesitation or fear to defend the cat folk that inhabited the lush, forest domain.

He was their hero, their warrior hero, whose longstanding reputation of strength and bravery was matched by no other. His remarkable fighting abilities—though always tempered by the search for a peaceful solution before aggressive action was taken—earned him the respect over time of many different species with whom he had come in contact. Openly admired yet inwardly feared, dearly loved while meticulously obeyed, this cat among cats was truly…the one and only of his kind.

Benny the Bold resided in a great stone castle within the walled fortress of the Feline Kingdom. His majestic, ancient home, with its four towers reaching up into the heavens provided him with everything he needed to lead a life of relative solitude and reflection, although he did venture out and about occasionally, cordially mingling with the many four-legged, furry residents of his realm.

His castle, as tradition would have it, was surrounded by a deep moat on all sides. It was brimming with fresh, clean water that was so graciously provided by the streams and rivers that led into the felines’ land area. Equally important, the moat was always filled with an ample supply of succulent fish that served as the major source of sustenance for all those who lived within the Kingdom’s walls.

Some of the felines who were organized in exploration and hunting parties also brought back other dietary supplements such as scampering mice and hopping insects. These were found outside of their fortified hamlet but within their marked territories, which extended several miles beyond in all directions.

The cat folk most generally led a tranquil and pleasant life, faithfully keeping their fur coats licked up clean and smooth, their claws adequately sharpened and pointy, and never ignoring the importance of frequent, luxurious catnaps as a part of their daily routine.

So it had been, so it is, and so it will be as long as their warrior hero walks among them. Always ready and willing to leave his castle walls when destiny should compel him to do so, Benny the Bold will continue to brandish his armor until he is no more, courageously defending the lifestyle and very existence of his cherished subjects of the Feline Kingdom.

May they all… live happily ever after.

Epic Tale 1: A Treacherous Foe

Once upon a time, in a faraway, mystical land inhabited by curious beings of all types and dispositions, Epic Tales of inconceivable dimensions unfolded before the eyes of all those present who witnessed the extraordinary events, sparking their imagination to reach newfound heights of stimulation and inspiration…

Part 01 (The saga begins: life in the Feline Kingdom)

Benny the Bold he was called. His feats of bravery and valor were well known and admired throughout the Feline Kingdom, and in some cases, places far beyond. The communal territories under his control and leadership were quite extended although he and his loyal subjects occupied no more space than that which was necessary for providing them with a comfortable existence and the normal freedom of movement required for his species.

It was a beautiful, wooded land, with rolling hills or even high mountains to be found along with wide, open, grassy plains that provided a stunning contrast. Majestic trees of all shapes and sizes were accompanied by an enormous abundance and variety of bushes and other underbrush and vegetation adorning the landscape, all of which generously offered cool shade for some and safe shelter for others.

Many different animals, insects, and birds were scattered about in isolated, intersecting or overlapping habitats. The habitats had been formed depending on the peculiarities of each individual group of creatures and their adaptability to the specific geographic conditions and compatibility with those unlike themselves.

All in all, taking into account the Feline Kingdom itself and the vast territories that surrounded it, there was a wonderful mixing and matching in Mother Nature’s domain. It was a life space She warmly and gently embraced, assuring her children that She was always watching over them and doing Her best to assist and guide them in their Earthly endeavors and daily existence.

Benny the Bold was a cat among cats, like no other who had ever been born in that region from time immemorial. He was a fearless, cunning, and strong-willed yet compassionate and benevolent leader who many times during his long reign and seemingly eternal lifespan had been called upon to defend the sacred, marked territories of his fellow cat folk from peculiar or villainous, external dangers.

The esteemed ruler of the Feline Kingdom was somewhat of a legend in his own time, and all the other felines looked upon him as an incarnated, mystical warrior who had been sent to protect their personal domain, bringing about peace and harmony among the inhabitants through his occasional inspiring community discourses and his bold and valiant actions. He alone set the shining example of a noble and moral lifestyle for all others to follow.

His word was always the final word, never to be questioned or given a second thought. That is how much his subjects revered and trusted him, showing their unwavering respect through their punctual and exacting obedience and compliance with his decrees. His word was the law of the land and all lived happily, under those circumstances. There was no other formalized law due to his being one of those very wise and just rulers who was a rarity among any species at any time in the history of the planet.

It was Benny the Bold’s world and he was in complete control. This was not a self-ordained sovereignty though that he had achieved by force, but rather an authority freely conceded to him by his fellow cat folk. His mandate came not from the strength of his well-honed and superior battle techniques, but instead from deference to his impartial and fair judgment, the elegance and confidence of his gracious gait, and the steadfast look of unflinching determination in his eyes. He was indeed… a cat among cats.

All had been quiet in the Feline Kingdom for quite some time and the furry inhabitants thus went about their normal daily routines in a joyful, carefree manner. For example, some scratched trees in creative ways, making decorative designs throughout the village so all could marvel at the artistic talents of those more gifted in that field.

Others, the more skilled at hunting, occupied their time luring the prized, finely finned fish out of their watery abode or chasing down assorted butterflies, crickets, and other delicacies that could be shared among the community in a scurrying, hopping, succulent feast.

And still others, with more constructive and practical inclinations, sought out and brought together great mounds of fine, clumping sand that would serve the cat folk’s more private needs when the duty of that sort called out.

It was thus a concerted effort that drew upon the strengths of each and every cat—male or female, young or old, and of all shapes, sizes, and colors. These communal activities and responsibilities brought about a sense of deep unity and understanding of their interdependence for survival to the individual and collective minds of all who dwelled in those territories.

Time was passing by slowly and quietly as one season gently folded into another with Mother Nature’s regular shifts of climatic temperament. When one is at peace, the winds may blow soft or hard, the rains may come light or heavy, the sun may shine bright or weak, but it matters not because one’s inner being is in complete harmony with that which surrounds it. And so it was in the Feline Kingdom for many full moons, while night met day and day greeted night as two old friends crossing paths, over and over again in their circular dance of joyous existence.

Part 02 (The discussion: options explored)

Knowing that a permanent, blissful state such as this cannot be hoped for even in the most docile and isolated places on this Earth, the dramatic situation that cropped up so unexpectedly for the furry feline inhabitants should come as no surprise. It all began…one fine, spring day.

Not being sure exactly how it had started, as is common with these kinds of occurrences, there suddenly was a rumor rapidly spreading about a monster having been sighted in the West, over the mountains and far into the dark, mysterious forest that lies beyond the Feline Kingdom.

Most of these unverified reports were coinciding in that it was a huge, ugly, drooling beast, with long, white, gleaming fangs and quite a nasty disposition in general. It was said to be swift of movement, able to run long distances without tiring and to track its prey like a seasoned
