    Introduction

What are you planning for the next 24 hours?

Actually, 24 hours don’t have to come all at once. They can be eight days of three hours, three eight-hour days, or 24 days of only one hour.

What are you going to do with that time? You could clean your closets, or visit your in-laws. Maybe you’d prefer taking a bus load of kids on a school field trip, or having some root canal work done?

If none of these possibilities appeals to you, why not try knitting?

Can’t remember how to knit? Confused as to what those abbreviations and symbols mean? Spend a little time with our Refresher Course starting on page 119. Then join me on a walk through the pages of this book and select a sweater, a purse, an afghan, a scarf, or any of the other wonderful designs. Here are a wide variety of patterns that you can create in 24 hours or less to give as gifts or for your own enjoyment. Settle down with a cup of tea, a pair of knitting needles, some wonderful yarn, and let the rhythm of the stitches smooth away all your cares. Now isn’t that a whole lot better than root canal?

Each pattern lists the amount of time it took my friends to finish a particular project. So if you have only an hour to complete your work, try making a Snazzy Scarf on page 40. If you have more time and want something a little more exciting, try the Lion’s Mane Evening Top on page 16. That will almost fill up those 24 hours with purr-feet creativity.

Just remember that knitting shouldn’t be a chore. If it takes longer than the suggested time to finish your project, that’s all right too. There’s no special award for the knitter who finishes first. So whether you finish in the allotted time or twice that time, the final result will be the same: a knitted project that you can display proudly.
