OREGON MIST
This morning we had an Oregon mist—
reminds me of crisscrossing
the U of O campus as a student,
warm, waterproofed pea coat,
headscarf a necessity, wet shoes.
Later—toddlers playing inside with blocks
their dad made from plywood scraps,
laundered clothes hanging in the carport,
windshield wipers wiping,
flowers blooming,
huge zucchini growing,
strawberries appearing,
friends' fruit trees bearing,
nineteen ways to use zucchini squash in cooking.
Nostalgic—yes—a tug at the heart—
reminiscing beginnings
