I’m so excited the conference is here in San Antonio at The Menger. Aren’t you? Jordan Kyle slid her driver’s license across the counter to the reservations clerk then turned to her friend, Cait Marsh.

Cait grinned at her. Yes, but not as excited as you are, I guess. You’re the one who’s so fixated on ghosts.

I wish you’d get into it, too. Excitement bubbled up inside Jordan. I just love this city. We can have so much fun together while we’re here. She lowered her voice. Especially checking out the haunted areas.

I’ll leave you to hunting the hotel’s famous spirits. I’ll be hanging out in the bar where good old Teddy Roosevelt put together his Rough Riders. Cait winked. Give me a good old Texas warrior over a ghost any day.

While planning their trip, she’d learned the historic Menger Hotel in San Antonio, Texas, was the oldest continuously operating hotel west of the Mississippi. She and Cait were history buffs to a certain degree, so the conference location was a bonus for her. She paused a moment to take another good look around at the stately décor. The floor was covered in what appeared to be a copy of antique tiles, and the furniture was a combination of traditional modern and tasteful reproductions.

On the way to the lobby, she had noticed the reproductions of the Alamo and the display of Teddy Roosevelt memorabilia in the glass-fronted cases lining the walls. For a moment, she thought about all the famous people who surely had passed through here over the years. What a wealth of history this place held, along with its famous ghosts.
