The Toothless Fairy

The world is filled with candy and sweets, especially at certain times of the year. For one, lonely fairy, sweets become her refuge and she hides her face and toothless grin, sad to not have one friend. But, she is a generous and sweet-loving fairy. Her greatest fear is that her face is full of warts and her nub of a nose will be cause for rejection. She watches the children have fun in the streets of summer and she wishes that she could befriend them, but she is too afraid to make the first approach. What if they are scared? What if they don’t like her?

On one day, as Autumn begins she looks down at the children and they are dressed in scary outfits—they look like ghouls and ghosts, witches and warlocks, and even fairies. She is baffled and surprised that the children are not scared of each other and of their selves. She thought that looking scary meant that no one would want to be her friend. She has a realization—perhaps being scary is not all that bad.

So a wistful plan is formed—the Toothless Fairy decides that she will finally conquer her fear of approaching a potential friend by using her fairy magic. She knows that kids receive candy on Halloween, and that often times they do not eat it all. So her plan becomes to give a gift in return for a child’s candy, and she knows that if the child accepts her trade, she would never be scared of making friends again.

So on Halloween night, the fairy musters all the courage she can and she flies into the home of a sleeping girl. The girl wakes and they are both scared. But when the fairy creates a magical new clarinet for the girl, the girl sees her face for the first time and is not scared. Instead the girl is filled with boisterous merriment and awe. The two quickly become friends while the girl plays her clarinet and the Fairy gobbles up her candy.

After a night of fun and friendship, the girl falls asleep and the Toothless Fairy leaves a note in her jacket pocket. The note declares that a tradition has begun—that every year the Toothless Fairy will come to kid’s houses—those with a profusion of candy—and she will trade them candy for a magical gift, and of course, a lifelong friendship.

Timothy Jordan {Author} is a San Diego, California native who currently makes his home Lake Oswego (Portland), Oregon. Writer, author, lyricist and the lead singer in his band, he brings Buck’s creation of The Toothless Fairy to life through his writing. Homeschooled through sixth grade, Timothy wields a diverse perspective as well as a love of learning and physical activity. Jordan is a competitive runner and founded a successful 5k run/walk to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in 2014. Since poetry and music have always been important to Jordan, he is usually found with a backpack full of journals and pens and a guitar close by. Following the creation of a series of children’s stories he wrote for his Mom’s pre-school class, Timothy wrote The Toothless Fairy when he was only seventeen. The Toothless Fairy by Timothy Jordan is a cute book for kids about a lonely fairy that wants a friend and her looks scare kids. She finds she fits in on Halloween. It was adorable illustrations showing how "creepy" she is and how she makes friends in the end. Weird but cute. LOL. Thanks NetGalley for suggesting this book.

The toothless fairy is a wonderfully illustrated children's book with some good messages. Using Hallowe'en as a backdrop, the toothless fairy goes out looking for friends. She is lonely and thinks she will scare anyone that she tries to be friends with because she thinks having no theeth makes her ugly. On Hallowe'en, the children do not seem to be afraid of scary things, so she makes her move. When she approaches a little girl in her room at night, the girl is not frightened. She offers a gift, a clarinet, in exchange for candy. They play and have fun. They decide to make this a Hallowe'en tradition. Messages about loneliness, making friends, not judging by appearance, and of course that too much candy is not good for you are all there. The illustrations are amazing. The fairy is actually fun to look at and the colours in the pictures are vibrant and eye catching. A great book for family, classroom, school and public libraries.I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

The Toothless Fairy by Timothy Jordan is a book for children ages zero to twelve. I gave it three stars. The toothless fairy found a friend on Halloween. It's about establishing new traditions & sharing.I received a complimentary kindle edition from Night River Press & NetGalley. That did not change my opinion for this review.

This is a cute little story about a lonely fairy who wants friends but is afraid of being rejected because she is toothless and is convinced she would scare them away. Then she sees how children are not afraid of Halloween costumes so she decides that Halloween might be a great time to try to make friends. My son who is 6 years old was very interested when I told him I had a book for him to read with me because of the title itself. He loved the rhyme and enjoyed the story so much he asked me to read it again.I received a copy of this book from the publishers via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
