    Chapter 1

    In the county of Glamorganshire, South Wales, was the village of Marshfield, near Cardiff, not far away from the beautiful Wye Valley of Monmouthshire. Marshfield village had its own church, village hall, community centre, playing areas, lots of country walks with plenty of fishing ponds for children, and a good school. Although Marshfield had been expanding very quickly, it still held its peacefulness.

    Stony Cottage was built deep in the countryside of Marshfield. It was an old, pretty, detached cottage made of stone. Over the years it had been extended and now had four bedrooms, a big lounge, a study, and a large kitchen-diner. In the back garden stood a large orchard, water fountain which lit up at night, a goldfish pond, plenty of hedges, flower beds and a couple of old barns. There were plenty of rare birds and squirrels that came to visit.
