    Chapter 1

It seemed like only weeks ago that she was taking classes from her aerobics instructor. She wanted to go back to that point and deal with certain things differently.  Her circumstance, at present, was what compelled her to amend her decisions.  Kristen Ramsey sometimes judged by her looks, was used to going the extra mile to prove herself.  This time it had nothing to do with her ability to be independent.  She had to deliberate her purpose in life, and she wanted to do it quickly.

She had been working out all day, trying to get in shape for her upcoming job interview.  She envisioned the day when she could pursue her desire to be a personal fitness trainer.  Exercise and sporting activities were high on her list of passions.  But, her hometown was not exactly athletes central.  She knew that in order for her to find work, she would have to relocate.

Opportunity came knocking several days later.  Kristen had sent resumes to quite a few prominent fitness clubs and gyms. Her source for employment came in an affable package.  She had a scarce amount of friends in Nashville, but was never really a part of the Music City crowd.  She made acquaintances there when she was in college.  They tried their best to stay in touch, which Kristen felt she would truly benefit in doing this.  Billie Todd, a school colleague, was such an asset.  The last time that they had spoken, Billie had just given birth to her first child.

Kristen and Billie were good friends and roommates in college, but didn’t have a whole lot in common.  They would occasionally workout together in a local fitness club.  Billie had a desire to be a photo journalist, while Kristen had always yearned to be a top personal fitness trainer.  They had made a pledge to one another that they would remain friends. It became harder to stick to that promise though, because they strived to put work first. They also swore that if things worked out well for one of them, they would arrange for a few favors.

Billie said she would interview Kristen for her magazine, and she could get discovered via her company.  Billie did excel and beyond her wildest dreams.  She was happily married to country superstar Ricky Todd and had a baby.  Furthermore, was working for a well known magazine and Ricky’s part time manager.

She called to let Kristen know that she was ready and willing to help.  Billie had quite a few ideas in mind to ensure Kristen’s good fortune.

Kristen, have you considered starting your own business? Billie asked.

Kristen responded, At one time, but it seems things aren’t quite so simple.

Oh, the grass is always greener speech.  That’s not the Kristen I remember.  You usually don’t give up so easily.  I know how to turn those rain clouds to rainbows. I can ask around and see if anyone is interested in hiring you.  Most I know of now already have personal trainers. But, you never know when something might become obtainable.  I just had to run that idea past you first before I did any research.  Is that an appealing offer? Billie inquired.

Kristen paused and returned an exclamatory Yes!

Billie told her she’d be in contact with her with results soon. In the meantime, Kristen still went on interviews, while keeping her current job.  Even though it was excruciating, she knew things would start to look up: they could always be worse.  Billie kept her promise and called back a few days later.

You know, I was almost about to get Ricky to hire you.  He prefers the trainer he has now, but would do anything for me.  That’s when your luck changed.  I put the word out and sure enough, I have some prospects.  All you have to do is set up an interview.  Ricky and I are going to the award show and we got a ticket for you.  You will be our guest and we have already sent your plane ticket to you.  You should receive it tomorrow.  I hope everything will be satisfactory.  Will you have any problem taking off from work? Billie inquired, as she looked over her own schedule for the next week.

Kristen knew Billie was right.  It was her only way out and it sounded exciting. She assumed that being a trainer for an entertainer would entail traveling.  That would at least get her out of town and a change of scenery.  She didn’t have anything keeping her there.  She was not obligated to her current job and she had no significant other.  Kristen really hadn’t been looking.  She felt she was unlucky in love.

She didn’t have a deadline, but decided to give Billie her answer as soon as possible.  She did not want to wait around for any other offers.  It was supposedly best to take what she could get before someone else did. Billie was anticipating her call.  Since she had already sent the tickets anyway, it was predetermined.  But, reassurance was always an admirable idea.  Kristen would be staying with Billie and Ricky while they were in Nashville.

An awards show was a couple of days away.  They had some extra time to hang out, catch up, and help Kristen learn about who may be her future employer.  Kristen also got to work out with Ricky.  She would say that was an added bonus, but she would be referring to her friend’s husband, and didn’t want to imply any meaning behind it. Even though in her mind, he was considered hands off, she couldn’t help but appreciate his toned muscles, dark brown hair, tan skin, and infectious laugh.

Kristen was well educated by awards night, on all things country entertainers and Nashville.  She felt like she had been studying for an exam.  It was good to know your info.  The award show was not too painful for her.  She had nothing personal against country music; she was just more of an 80's rock fan. But, she was open to other music.

One moment during the show, she did happen to catch someone staring at her.  She just smiled and turned away.  She wasn’t being arrogant; she just wanted to concentrate on her impending career.  She had to stay focused and find her employer.  But, the gentleman did have very stunning blue eyes. She likely would not forget those, just something about him was appealing.

Billie told Kristen she would be talking to people at the post awards backstage. She managed to get one possible client.  While she was waiting to speak with one other person, she noticed another very attractive guy.  He had a lovely smile.  Then, she noticed the pale white circle where a ring should’ve been.  But, for all she knew, he could’ve been divorced.  She chose to get the facts from Billie.  Billie told her it was Greg Anthony, a recent divorcee.  It was his third marriage.  She normally tried to stay away from sticky situations.  Her life was complex enough.  She was aware that there were children involved
