About this ebook
The British Empire is no longer the authority it once was. Instead, it’s controlled by private business organizations—the most powerful of which is Ireland’s ruthless Wildenstern family. Eighteen-year-old Nathaniel Wildenstern has given up his dreams of travel and adventure to devote himself to being his brother Berto’s head of security. With the help of his wife, Daisy, Berto wants to change the barbaric ways of the clan. But there are many among the Wildensterns who like things the way they are, and will resort to whatever devious methods necessary to keep them that way.
Meanwhile, the burned bodies of women are appearing around Dublin. When a connection to the Wildenstern family is discovered, Nate, Daisy, and Nate’s sister Tatiana decide to investigate. Soon they are digging into shadowy societies and dark family secrets that date back to the origin of the part-animal, part-machine enigmals. And what the young Wildensterns find could shed light on the savage nature of their family itself.
Oisin McGann
Born in Dublin in 1973, Oisín McGann spent his childhood there and in Drogheda, County Louth. Art college ruined any chance he had of getting a real job, so when he left in 1992 he set himself up as a freelance illustrator. In 1998, he moved to London, and through no fault of his own, he ended up working in advertising as an art director and copywriter. After three and a half years, he began to fear for his immortal soul. He returned to Ireland in the summer of 2002 much as he had left—with no job, no home, and some meager savings. Ever the optimist, he now works once more as an illustrator and mercenary artist by day and escapist writer by night.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Following on from Ancient Appetites, this is the second story about the murderous Wildensterns. Berto is now head of the family, ruling from his wheelchair and Nate is his protector. Daisy helps as only she can and they have to face up to some family secrets that people would like to keep hidden. The end took me by surprise. I didn't expect what happened to happen and I really do want to know what happens next! While some things were made clearer some were obscured even further. The larger mystery deepened and Nate is pivotal to discovering the truth.
