About this ebook
When Tess Winterstone returns to her suburban childhood home after almost 30 years to attend a high school reunion, memories flood back, firmly shut doors open, and the betrayal by her father decades earlier comes to rest. Masterfully weaving the complexities of familial love and rosy 1950s suburban life with the dark underside of such a reality, Mary Morris movingly portrays a woman coming to terms with a warm and charming father's duplicity.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book was good, but not great. The main interest to me was in the exploration of the connections between the generations - the issue of why we are the people we are...how our actions and words as parents can impact on our children's lives. I think Mary Morris had some good examples of this; gave me cause to think. She was also quite good at exploring relationships between peers. The book is narrated by a middle-aged divorced mother, who also recalls her teen and pre-teen years, so we cover a broad spectrum of relationships.I guess the ending was a little disappointing - the "instant" recovery from the depths of depression seemed a little unlikely to me.I only came across this book when I was looking for a book by Mary McGarry Morris and the library was just about to close so I didn't have time to look further. However, having found Mary Morris by luck, I think I'll look for more of her work in the future.
