I could hardly believe what I was seeing. I’d slung in to the locker room from the showers, a towel damp with the heat of my body draped around me to the chest, only to spot Lukas Hale, a broad-shouldered, tawny-skinned young man, hunched on one of the emptied out place’s benches with his elbows resting on his knees, his shoulders leaning forward, deeply engaged in something.

I knew Lukas from watching him on the college lacrosse team. I was an artsy type, in my second year of studying Drama and Stage Design, and my circle of friends was small and petite - but he was one I remembered, even though we’d never spoken. He stood out on the field. That was all of why.

If you’d known me, you wouldn’t have thought sports seemed like my thing, player certainly not, and spectator hardly less likely. To tell the truth, I went to the games almost only out of a desire to watch men in the peak of their physical prime, moving like fierce dancers, build and recreate a bodily poetry with each other across the shining grass.
