About this ebook

CJ Parker is sure she is insane for agreeing to go back to her hometown of Mountain’s Edge to see her ailing grandfather. To add to craziness she agrees to help plan the wedding of her childhood friend. No one told CJ the bride is pregnant or the wedding date is just over a week away. Not a problem, she’s a toughie, except she wasn’t counting on the chaos or her high school crush growing into a very hot cowboy.

Who the hell does Dalton Scott think he is being all sexy and kissing her ruthlessly? After the wedding from hell, facing the lies of her family, and admitting she is never getting over Dalton, she is going away. Well, that’s the plan anyway.

Dalton is sure his twin brother’s wedding is going to be one to remember—and not in a good way. Providing people stop mistaking him for his brother and accusing CJ of kissing the groom. After spending time with the beauty and some hot encounters all he has to do is convince the pretty CJ to give up planning weddings long enough to have one with him.

    Dear Reader,

Thank you for purchasing Cowboy Wedding Mix-up. This book was originally launched back in 2007 as Red, White & Groom and after some convincing by friends and family I decided to make some changes and re-release the story.

Dalton Scott is caught between doing what is best for his family and risking what he wants most.

CJ Parker thought her life in L.A. was complete until she goes back home to Mountain’s Edge, Montana and reacquaints with old friends and her old flame Dalton.

Though the wedding she plans is somewhat unconventional, in no way does the event compare to the crazy web of lies she finds herself tangled.

I really hope you enjoy Dalton and CJ’s story as much as I did revisiting and revising their tale.

    ~Best,

    JT

    Prologue

What the hell are you doing? CJ Parker demanded of the blue pick up in front of her as it swerved and cut her off.

Traffic wasn’t moving, she was stuck in her convertible, and the weather could be best described as humidly hot. Her air conditioning system had chosen today, of all days, not to work, completely in line with her streak of bad luck of late. Sighing, she started to strum her fingers against the black leather steering wheel in hopes the slight repetitive action would grant her patience.  She hated muggy weather and hated traffic jams just as much.  The blue pick up tried to straighten its tail end into the lane; obviously the driver wasn’t smart enough to figure out he wasn’t going to get his jalopy in between the minivan ahead of him and CJ’s Mustang.

Idiots, I’m sharing the road with total idiots, she fumed and pulled the shoulder strap of her seat belt in a feeble effort to get comfortable. What else was there to do? Traffic wasn’t moving and she doubted it would anytime soon.

The music from Phantom of the Opera floated gently to her ears.  CJ glanced at her cell phone and hit talk, since the earpiece was already secure.  CJ Parker.

Cory Jean, let thanks be given to the stars above that I could reach you, Lamby.

    Hi, Aunt Patty!

I love you, but in this heat and traffic, I’m not really up for your antics.

How many times have I asked you politely not to call me that? CJ softly reminded her aunt, thinking the designer wool blazer she had picked that morning had been a bad choice in this heat. Imagine that, the weatherman had been wrong. Partly cloudy with cooler temperatures sure has hell hadn’t happened.

CJ darling, I think you have a lovely name, and well, under the circumstances, you can go a little easier on your Aunty. She sounded all teary through the earpiece.

Aunt Patty, what’s the matter? Why are you getting all upset? You know what the doctor said about you staying calm.  I wouldn’t want you having one of your little episodes.  She tried to sooth her aunt and waited to find out what had brought on the latest bout of hysteria.

I’m calm. I’m having a martini as we speak,  Patty told her, inhaling deeply. Actually, it’s my third. One more and I should be perfectly relaxed.

One more and you should be drunk.

CJ glanced at the green digital numbers on her clock.  It was only ten thirty in the morning.  She sighed, knowing full well she was going to be late getting to the florist for the Janston wedding. Apparently, it was going to be one of those days. Aunty, I’m just on my way to a meeting. Praytell, what has you on a martini fiesta before lunch?

She glanced at her artificial French manicured nails as her fingers strummed a little faster.

    I need a fill and a filing.

Great! Another thing to fit into her busy schedule. Her aunt still hadn’t replied. Aunt, Patty, What’s going on, you’re quiet.

    Or you’ve passed out.

Knowing her aunt as well as she did, the latest travesty was probably nothing more than an incident with Precious at the puppy spa. If this call was because she had to wait for the groomer or because they didn’t pamper the white fluffy mop with feet the way they should have, she would seriously be getting a drink herself. She detested the dog, but she loved her aunt.

Daddy had a heart attack; we have to go home. The sound of more tears and then the guzzle of a drink echoed in her ear.  She was willing to bet her aunt had just finished the martini.  When she heard the shaker in the background, the sound confirmed her theory that another martini was in the works.

I’m home already. Daddy? What are you talking about?  Scowling, she wasn’t impressed and her patience thinned further as the traffic in the lane next to her started to move while her lane stayed still.

CJ, I know you are as shocked as I am. It’s been ten years since you’ve seen your grandparents, but I just got off the phone with Mommy, and well, your grandfather is asking for you.  Your grandmother needs you, and well, I would never forgive myself if I wasn’t there and something happened to Daddy.

You want me to go back home with you to Mountains Edge? She didn’t know if she should laugh or cry. As in Montana? There’s nothing in Montana except mountains and flat lands and cows.

Too many cows and not enough barbeque.

There’s more, pumpkin. There was something hidden in her aunt’s tone, which made her very apprehensive.  Apparently, Mommy was raving about your success with the Weatherbee’s, and well, I guess you’re not just going up for a visit and to add prayers, of course.

    Of course.

Just spit out what the hell you and grandma have gotten me into now.

But the exciting news is you’re going to be planning your old school friend’s wedding. That’s right, your friend Mary Kate is getting married to one of the Scott boys.

Thinking back to high school, her mind strayed to Dalton Scott. He was a couple years older, his parents were filthy rich, he had been drop dead gorgeous, and Derek’s twin.  Dalton had also called her ‘Brace Face’ and tormented her ruthlessly.  She’d had such a crush on him and then one day it became obvious he liked her too.

    I thought he loved me.

Pain pierced her heart and her mind played short glimpses of the past. After all, they had hung out in the same group of friends.  She thought about the people she’d left behind and winced.

    Damn! Damn! Double Damn!

This was horrible. She hadn’t seen Mary Kate or anyone else in Mountains Edge since her parents had been killed in the car accident.  Her dad’s sister Patty got custody, had married a very wealthy man from Los Angeles, then moved CJ away from her grandparents, her friends, and the guy she had spent countless teenage moments thinking about.

Cory Jean, are you there, honey? Worry laced every word her aunt spoke.  Lamby, are you all right? She slurped, no doubt another martini.

CJ breathed out and her life flashed before her eyes.  A sick and dying grandfather, Mountains Edge, and a group of friends now scattered to the wind. Not to mention, the boy who broke her heart.  Could she be lucky enough that possibly he was the groom or already married?  Of course, she wasn’t.  She had a business, damn it! Park Perfect Weddings. There was no time for a man.

    Cory Jean?

Fine, I am fine. Yes, I’ll go with you to Mountains Edge.

Because travelling half way across the country to farmland is my joy in life. Not! How much worse could this possibly get?

    Oh Cory Jean, that’s wonderful!

    But your shrieking is not!

Oh the Weatherbee’s are going to be thrilled, and I know your going to Mountains Edge is going to be wonderful for Mommy and Daddy. I guess all your friends are going to be there for the wedding.  You and Mary Kate are the last two to get married.

And she is sober enough to do math

Groaning, she rolled her eyes and thought about it; she planned weddings, coordinated them, and even attended them, but had no desire to have one of her own. If truth were known, she detested weddings. They were a foolish splendor over something that was going to end up in bitter hostility, and eventually, divorce, but those foolish splendors had made CJ a great deal of money. "I have to get things arranged at the office, but I will go with you," she stated again, seriously wondering if maybe she needed a martini herself for even agreeing to such stupidity.

She had three very large and well paying weddings coming up. She would have to trust her assistant Carla. Carla was a sweet girl, but occasionally flighty. Who the hell was she kidding? She was as
