Reviving Society
Chapter 1
Society is a group of people living together in a community. No ethnicity or gender in the definition, just people. As African-Americans, the country has never really recovered from slavery and segregation. African-Americans built this country and invented most things that are used in this society today. Therefore America has its own cultures and subcultures.
The way the country counts their black citizens say that they are the minority. As a result, does this make African Americans a subculture of the overall culture of America? Blacks have the right to be part of America’s culture just like the other races.
The real reason for the minority reference is because of the statistics that tell us how many black people are citizens of the country. Nevertheless, should that mean black culture is really subculture?
Subculture is a cultural group within a larger organization, most of the time having beliefs or interests that vary from those of the larger culture.
Although the definition is true, are blacks really that different and inferior to the rest of humanity? We should think not, however, this is the way the so called cookie crumbles
.
African-Americans are part of society but they alienate themselves to be less than what they are. They are forgetting the major role they played in building this country to where it is today.
If African Americans know the importance of the place they take in society, they would not have the issues of today. Furthermore, the people should get the proper education into learning about themselves and what they mean to their culture.
The truth will be shared only if society pushes it to the forefront. Confusion will be erased only if seeking what was taken away is taught.
We, as Americas, play a big part in society. In today’s time seeing the amount of black congressmen in the Senate is promising. On the other hand, not seeing black men and women trying to take their place in the future of politics is dishearten.
Being part of the social group and upper class of society takes place in politics. In that case, African Americas shy away from such topics. Blacks give themselves the inferiority complex by the way they interact with each other.
Some refuse to lend help to another in the time need. Always going around thinking that someone else will give them aid is how most African Americans think.
The reason why these situations occur is because some African Americans are ignorant of their own organizations and upbringings. Culture and society is built up with the people that invest in it. Culture does not make itself, the people do. The good and positive things done for the community is what will stabilize and sustain it.
Building community centers and playgrounds for the neighborhood will set up a common place for the communication and growth of the people.
The people are the society; therefore, building it upward and toward positivity will
