I am southern writer who enjoys writing about the southern living I grew up in. I am divorced and work at a nearby college. I live about fifty miles north of Nashville, Tennessee in the town of Gallatin. I enjoy sharing my stories with the readers, which I hope find the stories appealing. I write mysteries, crime thrillers, and suspense. My books touch on various subjects dealing with today’s society of the yester years. I write short story collections with the hope of sharing a variety of my stories for the reader’s enjoyment. I want to be an effective writer with positive stories that bring the reader down to a good old country story with a lot to say.

    Billy the Bully Bee

The Lord had created a beautiful paradise in the valley of Honeysuckle Hill. The valley was adorned with all kinds of trees, bushes and flowers. The wild honeysuckles were abundant with their golden sweet aroma. The wildflowers enriched the valley with many fragrances, too. The trees stood boldly like watchmen across the valley and all the creatures that lived there were always stirring about here and there.

Now, Louise, who also lived there, had a beautiful flower garden which was the highlight of the valley. It was a radiant, glowing garden of all colors and kinds of flowers. In the summer, the roses stood abreast of the garden and accented the irises, daffodils, daisies, black-eyed Susans, forget-me-nots and many other flowers. In the spring, the wildflowers stood along with the bluebells, sweet Williams, trilliums and so many others as the morning dew disappeared. In the fall, the garden was decked out with mums. But, in the winter, the garden laid at rest and awaited the coming of spring when the crocus would bloom through the small patches of remaining snow.

Yes, it was a paradise for everyone in the valley, especially the bees. The bees lived in a hollow tree at the Bee Hive Hilton; it was located in the woods not far from the garden. It was a big old dead tree that had become home for the bees in the valley. The Bee Hive Hilton was a hotel with many chambers of honeycombs filled with sweet honey. Billy was a bully bee who picked on the other bees. He hindered the worker bees most of all. He would fly around the garden and chase the other bees off so he could get the nectar from the flowers for himself. All the other bees were afraid of him because he was bigger than they were. He was fast, too, and could dart about the flower garden faster than anyone. Every time Billy came around the beehive, the honey bees would all team up against him and do a surprise sting attack; he wouldn’t stay for long. Billy loved the nectar from the honeysuckles and the flowers of the honeydew melons.

One day, Brooke, the honey bee, was out flying around enjoying the sun and the beautiful day when she came upon Louise’s garden. That was the first time Billy had ever seen her. She is so beautiful, he thought as her wings buzzed a song of love. Brooke was born by a brook not far from Louise’s garden. That’s how her mom and dad came up with her name. It was love at first sight for Billy. But, he didn’t think she would ever take up with a bully bee like him. He didn’t think he would ever be that lucky. Every day, Brooke went to the garden and enjoyed its fine nectar and marveled at its beauty. Day after day, Billy watched and waited for her. Billy had fallen in love. He was so in love he couldn’t eat or sleep and could hardly fly. All he did was think about her. . He sat around with his head in the clouds, counted the petals on the flowers and said she loves me, she loves me not over and over. Billy wanted to say something to her but he was too shy. He tried to write her a poem but he couldn’t because he wasn’t a good spelling bee The other bees didn’t know what to think about Billy because he moped about, flew around all crazy like and he was nice to them. They had never seen him like that before. They were puzzled until they saw Brooke and realized he was lovesick.

One day, out of the blue, Billy looked at his reflection in the morning dew, stuck out his chest and said, To bee or not to bee. I’m going to say something to her.

However, his courage didn’t last long. I’m too shy, he thought. Billy was love sick and miserable. Finally, he eventually got brave enough and flew over near her. She acted like she didn’t notice him even though she had seen him the first day she came to the garden and wanted to talk to him. But, she wanted to play hard to get so she could see if he really cared about her.

    Hi, he said.

    Hi, she replied.

You are not from here, are you? he asked.

    No, she said. And you?

    Am I what? he questioned.

Are you from here? she asked.

Uh, yeah, he replied. Yes, I am from here. What’s your name? he asked as he flew a little
